Pro 5.0 Shifter Question (Already Have one)...

Hey Guys,

What with the Impala and all, I have a different console setup than you guys. I need to have the Pro 5.0 handle straight up and down. Given a long enough lever, I can attempt to bend the billet steel handle in a vise. Will it break? Should I heat it up first?

Thanks,
Matt

I would personally heat it up first, however you may be better off going to a weld/speed/machine shop of some sort and having them do a custom piece to exactly how you want it. You could bend the handle, but I wouldnt really want to. If I did though, I would heat it to soften the metal.

You might just want to contact Pro 5.0 and see what choices they have available in handles. Since they make handles for the Tremec 5-speed, and the T56 in the Cobra SVO, they may already have something that meets your needs, with the correct bolt holes in it... just a thought.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I believe Pro 5.0 has a shaft that would work, but that is not economically feasible at the current time. Do you think I would destroy my current shaft by bending it a bit?

Thanks,
Matt

I heated and bent mine. Worked fine. Put the stick in a vise, heat it up (I used an acetylene welding rig) and put a pipe on the end to bend it with. A shot of spray paint (the heating up will discolor it) and you're good to go.

A friend of mine had the same proublem he took a dremmel and shaved off the notch that makes it stick out. Then re-drilled the holes so the bolts would fit the end product turned out OK but you may be better off bending it.
