I just busted my driverside valve cover off because I have been noticing a light ticking from the passenger side. lol anyway I was told that the car had 1.6 rr's put in but these clearly state 1.5 on the top, Does anyone know who makes these. So they were all loose except for one, tried tightening them and it felt like they were as tight as they could get...I felt like I was about to break something. I was able to wiggle them all about a quarter inch or more. Except for that one. Any help, advice or input would be appreciated.

They look like Crane. You need to read up on here or shoebox's site to learn how to adjust the rockers. You cant just tighten them up. I like doing it with the motor running.

Better start checking the rest of your parts, springs, pushrods, cam, etc. Make sure everything is in working order.

Dude you adjusted them wrong. Like he said, look on ShoeBox's site. Find the directions for adjusting them properly.

I also, personally like doing them with the engine running for a hydraulic lifter set up. It is fast, easy, and not near as messy as you would think. Get a flat piece of cardboard to span from the edge of the head across to the inner fender. Makes clean up even easier ...

I haven't adjusted them.. I've been reading shoeboxes writeup. I know that the rockers are gonna have a little noise to them, but like I said it is louder on the passenger side, and I have yet to look over there.

SmokeyBlaZe - What is that that plugs your AIR Fitting on the #1 Cylinder's Primary Header Tube?

If I remember correctly, they are just 1/2" pipe threads so you can get a 1/2" pipe threaded plug.

I could be off on the size, but mine are plugged compliments of Homo-Depot

I believe that his look was provoked by your statement of 'tightening the rockers because the felt too loose.' It is not uncommon to hear horror stories of people misadjusting rocker arms and doing damage to their engines. Rockers will typically feel 'loose' when adjusted properly, thus the look of concern when you said you kept cranking them down until they were tight.

From the sound of it you will be in good shape by reading Shoebox's write-up. I prefer to hand crank the engine and do each cylinder individually, but to each his own.

I possably see one issue and I think based on what you said, you have another issue. Based on the way they are sitting, it appears that they are NSA. Look for flanges on either side of the tip roller to confirm they are SA.

Also your issue of tightness could be a push rod length issue. Read this to check it. http://www.compcams.com/technical/Ca...106-07/264.pdf

The n___nuts that put them on could have the trunions upside down. check that too.

I don't see them as well on this computer, as the one I was using earlier.

There's a couple of spots you can see them hiding:

i am sure that you are aware of the set screws with an allen head socket that sits inside the adjuster. if you do not back off the allen, those adjusters are going to be mighty difficult to rotate. roller rockers do tend to make a bit more noise under those stamped steel covers. my crane 1.6's make a bit. thats why vettes had composite covers.

Of course I was aware of the screws inside the adjuster.
