preferred way to install cam

Allright, i am planning on getting my heads ported and swapping in a cc306 in march. I was just eyeing up the job, and i am just curious to see what most people do when they swap a cam. If I remove the radiator, is there enough room to slip the cam straight out? Or do i have to remove the whole front of the car, or drop the motor? I am not in too much of a rush, but i want to know everything there is to know before i jump into this.

By the way, i am doing all of this because the intake manifold gasket is leaking and it would be a shame to have to crawl in there twice.

thanks guys
trav

i took my motor out the bottom in 3.5 hrs with just an engine hoist. I personally would do it that way since you are doing heads. Drop the motor out and do the cam and heads then stick it back in i think it would be much quicker and easier. Plus you have room to work.

Best advice is remove the AC condensor too instead of trying to hold it out of the way while removing/installing the cam. Its only two connections and makes it a ton easier to take your time.

yep radiator and ac condensor is all and the cam will slide right out with about 1/8" to spare.

I even had to take the fricking hood latch catch out so the cam could slide all the way out!

When I did my cam swap i had to remove the radiator, condensor and hood latch. When i did my heads/cam, I lowered the engine out from under the car. I had everything back together in a day.

Ive done a few and its allways easiest to have another person there if you leave the condenser in, if they hold it aside for you then you have both hands to work the cam. I have never had to take the hood latch out. You guys that had to take out the latch was the cam pin hitting or what was the deal?

It all needs to come out, when I did it, the tip of the cam was just touching the undertray sweep, very close, but its not too hard. Also put the radiator and AC condensor in as a single unit, zip tie them together too.
