power steering woes...

okay, two weeks ago today, i replaced my power steering pump. i thought i did a pretty good job of bleeding the system. i lifted the front end up with the car off, moved the wheels by hand from left to right about 40 times, then moved the wheels from left to right via the steering wheel about 60-70 times with the car off (until i didnt see any more bubbles in the resevoir), then started the engine and let it run for 5 minutes before i touched the steering wheel. when i set it on the ground, it wouldnt steer left and right very easily while sitting still. only with a slight push of the throttle, would it be a little bit easier, but not as easy as it was when i was moving. ive been driving it the last few weeks and upon making a right turn into the auto store, the new pump blew out, fluid blew out everywhere. I'll get the pump replaced under warranty, but i want to make sure i fix it right if i missed something. any ideas on what couldve caused this or would make the steering harder if sitting still at idle? no leaks from the water pump. cleaned up the pulleys pretty good (at least best i could), but mightve had a bit of the old PS fluid on them from the first time it was leaking, possibly causing belt slip...? if thats the case, what wouldve caused this pump to blow out? had plenty of fluid. i was thinking about changing the rack out, but i dont think thats the problem, as for when the car was running down the road, i didnt have any problems with steering.

I changed a good working rack out on
my Beretta just for POM when I pulled
the engine. while you're swapping pumps
for a good one, might as well get a rack
too. Also, inspect and change any bushings.
20 side to side off and 20 side to side on
the ground should be good enough.
