Ok i have a 97 trans to start with, today i was sitting in neutral and i turned my wheels and i hear a loud whine, so i got out and had a friend turn the wheel and the whines coming from the power steering pump area, it only whines when im sitting still, if im driving it dosnt do it. And ideas of what it could be?

 

Does it go away once it warms up? If not then your power steering pump might be going out.

 

no, it does it whenever im sitting still, dosnt matter if the engines hot or cold.

 

If it only does it when you turn the wheels, its gotta be related to PS system. Its typical to not have/notice any problems while moving, much less stress to turn wheels that are in motion, rather than at its hardest point(at a stop). I assume you checked your PS fluid? Hows the color? Is it PS pump whine you hear? or maybe belt noise/slipping?
