power loss with 114 LSA over 112
power loss with 114 LSA over 112
Is there really that much of a difference in power between the two ?
I am talking about the 224/230 114 on afr comp heads full exhaust and all.
This hot cam has to go. Would the gains be worth the swap on 114 LSA?

well I am only thinking about the 114 because of California emissions getting harder and all.
I have also heard "driveabilty" gets better with higher LSA. What do you think?

To be honest with you, 112 isn't very radical, my 224/230 is on a 112. It's got a slight lope, otherwise it idles fine @ 850. Driveability is a non-issue. A 114 would have less lope and a bit of a shift in the powerband. Again though - neither of these is going to be a tremendous difference. If it were me in Cali, I wouldn't have any heart burn about going with a 114 just to be on the safe side with emissions. It's going to be a very nice bump in power and you've got to deal with what you've got to deal with out there regardless.
Check with some of the shops in the vendor index and get some ideas/thoughts from them. Almost all of them will be happy to help you out - not to mention this is what they do by trade. Not too many (including myself) on this board do this stuff for a living.

My 224/230 has hardly any lope at all, but that's not your problem. A closer LSA has greater overlap of the valves, which is a big killer of emissions. The wider LSA has less overlap, meaning more environmentally friendly. It also decreases the lope, and moves the powerband, down I believe.
I haven't heard of anyone passing emissions with the 224/230 on a 112*. I have heard of lots doing it with the 114* lsa though. As for driveability, it's awesome!!

for emissions, you dont have a choice, you will pass with the 224/230 114. texas emissions are the same now.
i dont know how much power over hot cam, but im sure there would be some. maybe get a custom grind, more lift?
whats it gonna hurt to try

There's plenty of power to be had over the hotcam. They're both ground on a 108ICL, and a 112 LSA for comparison. You've got 6* more intake and 2* more exhaust duration, and .11 intake and .19 exhaust more lift than the hotcam. It's gonna make more power.
What's the most power anyone's seen with ported heads/hotcam vs. Ported heads/224/230?? AFIK I've got the most I've seen from the 224/230 and heads combo. Anyone taken a hotcam this high?
