Power door locks don't work. What's the problem?
The power door locks on my 93 don't work. I checked the fuse and voltage at the switch connector. Both are fine and still, neither of the two locks work. What do you think the problem is?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Did you check that the ground was also good? There is a power door lock schematic on my Tech Page. I imagine it is probably the same for a 1993. The ground is fed through the passenger switch.
On my 93 that I just got a couple of months ago, they didn't work. Turned out a switch was bad. They're cheap, only about $6.75 from a GM dealer, and that could be the quick fix. Just pick up one, and swap it from side to side and check.
Rob,
if you're reading this, I got one of the locks to work today.
After checking the grounds and +12s on both switches, it turned out that there was no +12 going to the door lock motors. After some more examining, I noticed a splicing in the driver side door harness. The TAN and GRY wires were cut and connected on both ends with 4 "alien" wires that were going into the car. I'm assuming this is from the super lame alarm install someone did on this car before.
Anyway, I cut the other 4 wires and reconnected the ends of the TAN and GRY wires back together. I can now lock and unlock the driver side door with both the driver side and passenger side switches.
I removed the panel on the other door and there is no sign of splicing there, but the motor, as expected, is not getting the +12... so the splicing has to be somewhere else. Do you know where could it be?
Thanks.
