Powder coating headers

One of my headers has a rust hole in the collecter. Im gonna take them of and weld them up. Id like to get them powder coated. I live outside Okc and dont know of a good place and what type of powder coating would be good.

Re: Powder coating headers

Ask airborne coatings on 39th in okc, pretty sure it won't hold up but they might be able to ceramic cout them for you. Or you can send them to jet-hot.

Re: Powder coating headers

i do all kinds of powdercoating and ceramic coating. you can put high temp powder coat that will last up to 1200 deg or you can do ceramic coating. I can do either for you if you need me to. just pm me if you want.

Re: Powder coating headers

How well does the high temp powder coating hold up, that would be pretty neat if it lasts awhile and doesn't discolor.

Re: Powder coating headers

Why not just ceramic coat it, you will get lower engine bay temps.

Re: Powder coating headers

A powder coat will be little more than cosmetic. A cera-metallic coating is applied to both sides of the tubing, and retains more heat, increasing exhaust scavenging and lowering under hood temperatures.

My EGT gauge shows temps above 1,200degF.

Re: Powder coating headers

Yeah, I was just about to say, exhaust temps usually get hotter then 1200 degrees.

Re: Powder coating headers

I wonder how much Ceramic coating actually helps? Doesn't one have any percentage figures on how much, ppl claim it reduced temperatures?

Re: Powder coating headers

Well, a better question would be how much HOTTER the temps were (in the exhaust anyway.) Hotter exhaust is better then cooler. EGT's would be nice to compare.

Re: Powder coating headers

Jet Hot has data on underhood temperature reduction, power gains from scavenging, and extended life due to reduction of stress cracking and corrosion. They publish it in ads, and I think its on their website. As usual, be skeptical of the manufacturer's claims, but it does give you a feel for the magnitude of the gains.
