Possible to swap keyless.........

entry from a 94 and convert it to the 98 and up style? I am wondering because the TRW factory keyless entries on my 94 is a piece of garbage. It doesn't work right half of the time. I want the newer style FOBs, and all that.

I asked this question a while back and never got a definitive response. A lot of the responses stated that it was not possible due to different receivers and frequencies. Hopefully you'll get a positive response on this one.

I don't want to use the 94-95 Key FOBS. I want to use the newer ones so the frequency idea won't apply!

what do you mean it won't apply? I mean that the newer ones use a different frequency then the older ones therefore the remotes are not swappable. Unless you can swap the receivers as well. I think it would be best for you to go the aftermarket route. Get a clarion or viper or something. I guess...

Well the easiest thing to would be to buy a viper alarm, or keyless only if you don't want the alarm.

However, if you really want the newer style keyless, here's what I'd do. Go to a junkyard, find out if they have a car there with keyless, and the fobs and that they are the year you want. Find that car in the lot, pull the passenger side kick panel and runner(all one piece). In the kick panel there will be a black rectangular box with a couple of harnesses attached. That is the keyless module. You might be able to unplug that from the donor car, and plug it into yours. It could be that easy. Or it could be not possible. Only one way to find out.

nope. in the later models, the keyless and BCM are one unit. The keyless entry plugs in the 98 and up are 6 prong and the 94-95 are 8 prong a piece. I think I can cut and few wires and get omethign going on. When I do, I will post.

I'm sure that it can be done. But I don't know if its practical.... It would probably cost you way more to convert it over an aftermarket set-up. But you'd be a pioneer.... Good Luck on your endeavor
