A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
Sorry guys but their are no plans to put a 1 7/8 or stepped header into production. We are just trying to work with what we have. Considering the other brand long tubes that are out on the market today; our price range isn’t bad at all for a polished stainless steel 1 ¾ header with High Velocity Merge collectors. Just take into consideration our considerably good reputation with our LS1 headers!
As far as Y-pipes are concerned, we have to make the header first! You could expect the prices and options to be very similar to the LS1 options.
So is their any intrest?

Although I do not own a 4th gen car anymore, I definetly must say that I would love to have a set of QTPs when I had the car. Your reputation is top notch with the LS1 crowd. I say go for it. You definetly have a market, esspcially with how cheap it is to buy a LT1 car.
Plus, my roomie needs something better for the 14 lbs of boost he is pushing through the LT1 Jet-Hots right now.

I think if you can take your design and make a 1 and 7/8, go for it. If not you may as well just put the prototype back where it was. Yeah, the price isn't bad for a polished stainless header given your rep. with the LS1's, but the LT1 market already has a whole lot of 1 and 3/4 inch headers out there for a whole lot less money, granted they're not stainless and they're not QTP, but the LT1 market just doesn't need more 1 and 3/4 inch headers. There is a great need out there however, for 1 and 7/8. If you can built them great, if not, I don't think your 1 and 3/4 will be selling like hot cakes.
You've got a very representative set of answers here. Show them to your boss. There are still a lot of LT1 cars out there, and people are getting better numbers out of them than ever before, they need bigger and better headers.

Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
Alex, tell Barry that everything we talked about before is still true. If you look at a 1-3/4 header, the market is already floded with well known and proven brands. The market just wont handle another 1-3/4 header. The only place a new market exsits is with a 1-7/8 or stepped header...
BTW, tell Barry that Brian dropped of his motor at the machine shop and if he really wants, when its back in the car he can use my car to mock one up...
. But he has to bring me my trailer back so we can get the car up there, lol.

Look at this from someone else' perspective (that doesn't work at QTP). Hooker has made headers for a LONG time now. Jethot started making headers that improved upon Hookers design (thicker tubing, thicker flange, better welds) and were competitive in pricing. People are telling you what they want: 1 7/8 headers that bolt in a car without modification. There is a demand for 1 3/4 header. Unfortunately, you are not the first and the market is very competitive.
If I were you, I'd start planning on building headers for the 09 GTO and Camaro. It is hard to break into a market that is already saturated. You need to look to the future for growth, and listen to what the consumer wants...not what you want to sell them.
Take that set and slap it on your car. Then put "custom headers" in your sig and brag about it

Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
You got you're answer from many people here on where the market is at. Like was said before, with LT1's making more power than ever before, there is a need for a 1 7/8 header or at the very least a 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 competetively priced stepped header. If you guys aren't going to listen to what people want, you can't expect them to buy it. Just my .02
Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
Some times what the customer wants & needs are two different things. A stepped header design is very application specific! Ryan made some good points, the demand for a full 1 7/8's header w/o any modification is out there. Expecially if it comes w/ a merge collector design instead of a reg. or even a spike like the kooks. But to get the max power out of the merge design multiple piping would be needed to tune it on the dyno. But for that price I don't see that happening.
Hey Ryan RTR performance looks pretty cool, due they offer tuning?

Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
You are gonna need more than questions if they are wanted. How about pictures but not just pictures displaying them on the floor... we need pictures of how well the headers tuck up in the chassis because the only real difference among headers these days(no counting Kooks stainle$$ set) is fit and finish.
Re: A Possible Quick Time Performance LT1 Header?
I agree with the others about the 1 7/8's issue.
From a business perspective, it'd be almost pointless to make more of what's already out there by sticking with 1 3/4" given the size of the LT1 market.
