Is it possible for my temp gauge to be off?

Ok I replaced the temp gauge last weekend. On the old one the plastic connecter had broken. Sometimes I would reconnect it and before the wire eventually fell of the sensor it would read 170, 180 almost always. The new sensor always reads just a tad past 210. %90 of the time, except for today, when I think the engine heat soaked and it ran just above 225. Whats the deal here?

To be honest i'm not sure if mine ever read right.. the stock gauge is only a good referance point as to where your car normally operate's.. otherwise its aobut as good as dirt.. i'll be going over to autometer here in a few..

The temp gauge is about a accurate as the Tach

But seriously there are 2 temp snesors - one for the PCM and the other on the drivers side block between cyl 4 and 6 - it only services the dash gauge.

According to my scanmaster there is a noticable difference between them. although it's hard to tell with the increments on the dash gauge.

why are yur 2 gauges reading so different - likley a calabration issue between the gauges - unless you've done some mods in the meanwhile - you can always hook the old one back up to see if it is a calabration issue.

The old one was broken, thats why it was replaced, I just find it odd that all the sudden my normal operating temp would jump from 180 to 210.

The best explanation I've ever seen of why this is.
