Possible metal in engine, got to bearings

Alright, I recently did a Cam/Head swap, Comp Cam 305, Custom Heads. I also did a intake manifold that was bored out to 58mm intake, what i failed to realize that there was metal shavings still in the manifold when i put it on my car. I thought it would blow right out, but it didnt, i dont think. My engine is running terrible, but i only went about 30 miles since the cam swap. So maybe its still breaking in. Im not sure. But I took the dipstick out today and my oil had a grey tint to it, like bearing residue, could that be it?

Does anyone know how much it would cost to change the short block or the bearings?

Thanks

Are you serious? The short block is likely junk, depending how many shavings got into the engine and how much damage they did.

Costs to rebuild the shortblock will depend on the time and materials used.

"what i failed to realize that there was metal shavings still in the manifold when i put it on my car . I thought it would blow right out....(or suck them in!), but it didnt"

sounds like bad news bears for OnefstCamaroZ28

..you can drive it for awhile..but major wear is happening to your motor...only way to get ALL of it out is to hot tank your block and start over..i would keep your oil/filter changed and put a magnet in you pan and get a drain plug w/ a chip collector..

This is horrible, what does it USUALLY cost to replace the bearings, or pull the engine, and hot tank it and reassemble it with new bearings....

Re: Possible metal in engine, got to bearings

if you can pull the motor yourself and take everything apart so it is a bare block and have a good machine shop hot tank it...and replace rings, seals, freeze plugs, bearings, gaskets..your looking at least $1000.00??
i had 450.00 in .030 bore w/ tork plate, hottank, freeze plugs, magnaflux and cam bearings..
i have around 3k in mine and its not in the car yet..but darn close...mine is built alot more than stock... it maybe worth yourwhile finding a diff. motor for 700ish out of a wrecked car and just dropping it in..keeping your other for parts..just depends how many metal shavings got in there..

If I were you I'd change the oil before going anywhere. It will not save your motor but may keep it running for a few more weeks.
