Is it possible for me to add a flange to one side of a muffler myself? I'm trying to bolt a muffler right up to my y-pipe's 3-bolt flange. Can I do this myself, i.e. with some kind of flange tool? Thanks in advance guys.

Sure ya can. However, it is unlikely the flow of the exhaust, through the muffler will have been completed properly, so the exhaust note will not be, ah.....cured. Possibly, it may not be much louder than bypassing muffler altogether.

I'll have to slightly disagree with you on the point that 'it may not be much louder than bypassing muffler altogether' because a friend of mine has a mustang with mufflers not far past his headers. The sound is awesome.......to say the least. As long as I can get a 3-bolt flange on the muffler, I'll be GOLDEN!

I now first understood the full meaning, of your original wording/post. However, I'll STILL state that you can. Been done numerous times.
