Is it possible for a header gasket leak to cause knock retard?

Like the topic states. I was having knock retard until I found that my rockers were set up a little too much on the loose side. Once readjusted, my KR went away. The next day the scanmaster was showing KR again. The rockers are still as quiet as when I had readjusted them but I did notice that I have a black spot right above my #2 and 4 primary tubes. Is it possible for me to be getting knock retard from a header gasket leak?

Absolutely! Many guys have trouble after installing headers. Get an Lt4 knock moddule and you shouldn't have any more problems. By the way, a leaky exhaust manifold can mess up an exhaust valve- I would get that fixed pretty soon.

Thanks alot for the reply, I was beginning to think no one else has had this problem. Even though I can't hear a leak I can definitely see the burn mark right above the gasket. I know it wasn't there before because these heads were just put back on the car. I do have an lt4 km already.

Actually what I meant to say was some guys have trouble. Most don't but it can happen.

Re: Is it possible for a header gasket leak to cause knock retard?

dont mean to hijack the thread, but I had a leak on my passenger side header from a couple loose bolts of course. I had a ticking sound when it was leaking. Anyway, I retorqued the bolts and the sound is totally gone and everything seems nice and buttoned up. Some people told me the gasket is trashed and needs to be replaced since it leaked on it and would trash the gasket. Is this fact or an occasional thing? thanks

depends how bad the leak and how long it leaked. I tightened mine up a couple times and when I finally took the gaskets out to put the new heads on you could see a little damage to the gasket, but it wasn't anything serious.
