Yes i went with a custom grind to work with my heads.. The street manners of the 847 in an auto were not the best.. The mpg were even worse and i didn't like how you had to rev really high to get the power... The cam was a good power cam but to save yourself some $ if you are porting your heads get them flowed then have a cam groungd to work with your heads.... The cam that is in the car now is great, mpg went up got like almost 200 miles on half of a tank running the hell out of it.. The cam makes more power than the 847 and street manners are great.. Atljar has stock heads and 847 with 6speed and runs high11s which is awsome for stock heads... Hope i helped ..PM mee if you have any more questions

Well the car isn't daily driven, I only get the car out on weekends and not every weekend at that. I have had the car since May of 2002 and have put about 6000 miles on it, only put around 1500-2000 since cam change.

I am going to leave the LT4 heads alone for now. So whatever cam I go with, if I even change right now will be going in without any additional headwork, aside from valve springs.

Here's what my last car had:

'89 Firebird coupe, 700R4, Vigilante 3600, 3.73 gear, drag radials, 3550 lb with me in it.
11.3/1 compression 383, 5.7 rods. Pump gas: no problem.
AFR 210's out of the box.
GM 847 hydraulic roller cam.
Victor Jr. intake and Holley 750 carb.
SLP 1 3/4" shorty headers, SLP muffler.

This car ran a best of 11.09 at 122.7 mph. I shifted at 6,200 rpm.

However, knowing what I know now, I'd recommend for the LT1 a custom grind Extreme Comp cam with 230 intake and 242 exhaust duration. Get it ground on a 112, 4 degrees advanced. It will idle better than the 847 and the 306, plus make more power everywhere. As with any Extreme cam, though, you'll need 140+ lb seat pressure from your springs.

If you use at least 11/1 compression, it won't lose any low-end torque.

Mike

I think I will just keep my HOT CAM, add 1.7's and the other things listed in my sig and see what kind of time I can get out of it.

Just save up a little and start building another motor for it. Forged with probably a 200 shot.
