Follow up on 93 Pace Car. I went and looked.

I looked at the 93 Pace Car today in chicago, i originally saw it at chevy vette fest last weekend. Well the car is all good except for the small oil stains on the manifolds, what is that from? big deal? He's asking $11,000 for it and says he wants to sell it so that he dont have to scrape the windows on his other car this winter, so im thinking he wants to get rid of it quick,.. im gonna offer him $10,000 take it or leave it. It has 17,400 miles on it, int. is mint, paint is good except for the front is a little nicked up like normal and a peice that holds the headlight is loose. The car is also bone stock and very clean in and out, and the engine compartment looks like it was detailed. Can i get some opinions on this?

Cool

I saw your post earlier this week, and read this one today.I would walk away from this one, only because you mentioned an oil leak, and a detailed engine.I may be one brick short of a load, but why would a almost new car have to be detailed, and have a oil leak. Also,if the car is almost new,it problably sits alot, meaning a lot of seals could dry up,and cause some alarm.I've seen some sweet 95's through 97's that are to die for around So. california for about the same price or less with under 50,000 mi,but you have to be patient and shop around.Hope this helps, but if you decide to go with this one, have a dealer check her out.Could be the best $80.00 ever spent. If the seller gives you take it or leave attitude, run for the hills.My02.

Did you happen to pay attention to the wear on the seats or the wear on the gas/brake pedals? That can tell you a lot on whether the car acutally has the indicated miles on it. You are paying $10Grand for a 11 year old car. The only way you won't loose a ton of money on this car is if you don't drive it and what is the point in that? You could get a really nice camaro that is a lot newer for that kind of money.

Is this car an authentic pace car?
How many owners? Ask to see the title of the car, it will show how many miles where on it each time the car was sold.
Personally, i would stay away but its your money

My $.02

Maybe some of these guys on this board forgot...THEY DON'T MAKE OUR CARS ANYMORE!

Just imagine the value on that little Pace car edition in the next 10 years or so...if you keep it in good shape.

If YOU think the car is worth it and are willing to go $10 or $11K then get it. But if he is asking $11K and is willing to negotiate, he will more than likely gladly take $10K so I would offer more like $8 and see what happens. I have only bought two vehicles and both times they quickly accepted my "low" offer, so my advice (for what ever its worth) is to make a really low offer, explain that because of the rock chips, oil leaks, etc. it is not worth $11. You might end up with the car for less.

Just my $0.02

It sounds like it is in pretty good condition. Like the guys said, the car 11 years old, even if it was only driven for 5000 miles it will show some wear and tear somewhere. If its authentic than I would go for it.

Do you think if there was a late 60's camaro pace car and it had the problems you had mentioned it would loose a tremendous amount of its value? Probably not.

I would say it depends on what you want to do with the car.

Only pay what your comfortable with and what its worth to you.

Agreed...I'd buy it, even for 10k...

Its one of less than 700, and sounds like a very nice car...

I doubt that being a Pace car will add to its value. I would judge it on condition only. There have been several pace car editions of other cars that aren't worth a whole lot IMO.

Ok, first i want to thank all of you for your replys, i really appriaciate all of them. I did check it on carfax, it went from virginia to ohio, to chicago, and in the process was sold in an auction(which i did not like) 3 total owners, it is an authentic pace car, the brake pedal looked good, but the gas pedal looked worn out more then i liked. the seats were in great shape. under the doors looked good too. 8,000 i do think would be insulting him,.. i am going to call him back in a few days i think and tell him i liked the car and i didnt want to just leave u hanging, but the most i can offer is 9,000 and tell him what my concerns are and be up front with him. i love these pace cars, but i am very weary about this, just cause the guy was too nice, maybe i have no reason to be, but i am. im gonna go back and read the posts again to see if i can answer more questions i may have just forgot.

couple other things, im really not shopping around for camaros, i only want a camaro pace car, i have a camaro already. also i have seen these 93 pace cars with less miles then this, 17,000 is like avg for these cars, ive seen 5,900 and stuff. if i bought it, id prolly drive it 2-3,000 miles a year since i have 2 other cars. well thanks guys for your help.

I say go for it. You saw the NADA value on it when I posted it in the last thread. The oil sounds like a valve cover leak to me. $10/10 minute job.

Do what makes ya happy man.

I'd buy it. 93 - first 4th Gen, low miles, good shape, Pace car, no longer made.
