port the intake or not?

I'm currently considering AI's econoport. I have, however, read that in a few different posts that it was pointless to get the intake manifold ported. Below is the ported intake package that I was considering to go along with my head/cam package. (also was upgrading to a 58mm AS&M Throttle body). Just wanted to know if the money spent on the intake porting would be better spent elsewhere?

Street/Strip Porting - $575 - Fully ported and polished runners focusing on consistent crossections cylinder to cylinder and optimum taper angle. This also includes enlarged Throttle Body bores as well as additional internal contouring.

Thanks,
dave

I don't see any real gains with porting the intake fully. A generic gasket match is the farthest I would go unless you absoloutly need that last 1/4 HP

You can get 58mm intakes on ebay for about $100-200. Take that extra $400 and by yourself some gears, a custom cam, or up one stage of the heads.

Re: port the intake or not?

If you aren't looking to go crazy, you might be better off spending the money else where. If you go to a 58mm TB you will have to open up the front, but that isn't hard or expensive. You would probably see some gain from the porting but it's up to you to decide if it is worth it to you at the price per hp. You might see max 5-10rwhp (guessing...might be more or less).

Do you have all of your ducks in order other than the intake? (Injectors, fuel pump, tuning, E-Waterpump, valve train gaskets, etc) I would take care of those things first. Mine is ported, but I am going a bit more extreme than you will likely go.

$575 for porting the intake?

I'd put that $ elsewhere personally.

Lloyd elliot himself told me porting the intake would be a waste for my setup....

yeah, ive pretty much got everything else set up. ive taken a little time to try to get everything in order as far as what i'm going to upgrade. i'm planning on (besides head, cam, pushrods, lifters, rockers, springs, double roller) getting the electric water pump, long tube headers, electric cutouts, true duals, 58mm TB, 36# injectors, sub frame connectors, control arm relocation bracket, drive shaft safety loop, gaskets, fuel pressure regulator, possibly a better fuel pump,a delteq setup and, hopefully, a moser 12 bolt. I assume that ive got my bases covered for the most part in setting up a decent ride . thanks for the replies guys. i appreciate it. also, let me know if i left something out!
