Alright guys, its been awhile since I've been on here..my car has been under the knife for some time now. It had a really bad stutter or stumble under acceleration and I eventually found out it had two split ignition wires and the Opti had a lot of moisture in it from a leaky coolant hose (to the Throttle Body..did the by-pass to cure that ). Now..I have a new problem..
I have experience with Optis and I know how to install them..the first time I changed mine, I didnt have it lined up right and it would not start. It would just wear the battery down as it attempted to turn over. I know the Opti is in right now though..it tries to turn over. But after a few seconds..maybe 2 or 3..the car starts to turn over and theres a loud 'POP' (sounds like its coming from one of the piston chambers) and the it smells like smoke and then I see the smoke.
I think the only thing I can think of is when I had the fuel rails off for a few weeks something got into the engine..is this possible? Does this sound like a really bad mis-fire? Anyone experience this and have their car not start..instead POP then smoke? My car never did this before and Im not sure whats wrong..

Anyone? Im trying to fix this today so I can cruise before winter sets in..atleast once or twice. Anyone ever experienced this problem at all? Anything would help..at a brick wall here guys
Symptoms in a nutshell:

{turns over then 'pops' once..wont start up but smoke is seen from engine bay} <--nut shell

 

okay so now I know for a fact its internal that pops and makes smoke..I tried again and opened the butterflies (to the TB) and smoke was coming out. If anyone has experienced this..please HELP!!!!!!! thanks guys. Derek

 

Did you mis-align it 180 degrees opposite this time around? Perhaps the timing is DEAD OFF and its backfiring?? Haven't a clue, just throwing suggestions around

Maybe you crossed the plug wires.. hopefully.

The other possibility I can think of is when you put the opti on incorrectly and cranked the motor long enough to wear down your battery, you killed the opti too. Since it was probably in a bind, when you crank the motor over... the opti just broke.

 

-mis-aligned which part LT1Wanabe? The Opti shaft? Im pretty confident its in correctly..suppose I could go rip everything off again and put it back together.
-turbo..I dunno if crossed wires would make it pop like that and create a bit of smoke..but Im not 100% sure of that..think some crossed plugs would do that? And as far as the Opti shaft being 'binded'..I dont think theres anything to actually bind in the Opti is there? The power that is out..is EVERYTHING..if the Opti was shot..it just wouldnt turn over at all..Id just hear the starter click..but I totally lost power even though Im 99% sure I have juice in my battery..so Im guessing possibly the PCM..but not hoping..lol. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the replies guys
