Are poly motor mounts too harsh for a daily driver?

My mounts are 10 years old, figured what the hell, time for new mounts. I was wondering if polly mounts wouldn't absorb enough engine vibration and send it into the cabin? Also, how hard would it be to do it myself.

From what I hear they aren't bad at all. To do them yourself it requires jacking the engine up, I guess its not that bad if you have tools and some experience.

i have poly motor mounts, and they're nice. i don't notice any more vibration than usual, and the car doesn't buck to the side as much when i rev the engine in neutral.

It's subjective, but I would never use them in a street car.

Rich is right and add a throaty exhaust and you'll need Tylenol before every drive

I will be installing poly motor mounts in my 94 soon, they are not bad if your the type of gearhead who does not mind vibration in the name of more performance.
I have had them in other cars as well and its not bad (but its all relative, whats "not bad" to me may be hell to you
Solid motor and tranny mounts on the other hand are way too harsh for a street car and I have done that as well.

It's just like a big cam. How much are you willing to tolerate? I dont notice any difference in mine except the fact I dont waste as much energy moving the motor around.

I just got done installing poly motor and trans mounts. There real nice so far. I see them deffinitally as a must if you have a cam. I hardly notice the vibes, although i did take out the a/c, so i always have the windows open . not near as much shaking and they work real well with my little bit of cam surge....still runnin stock tune with my nice *little* cam

It may be interesting to ask the age of everyone that gave you an opinion. I'm 44 and think there is nothing wrong with OEM mounts. They should be replaced after a lot of miles but definetly OEM. Suspension is another story. Like poly there. I bet everyone that thinks polys are ok are younger than 25

Re: Are poly motor mounts too harsh for a daily driver?

43 years young and love the poly mounts. My stock ones were so bad that the car is actually smoother with the poly's. I also just rebuilt the whole front suspension with poly and WOW what a difference, but that is where I noticed alot more "road feel" than before, you get to appreciate smooth roads and hate the rough ones. I only have the SLP-1LE tranny mount but need to replace it but haven't gone to poly on it yet because ES says they're still working on making one that is "correct" for our cars.

I am 35 and have no problems with the poly mounts.
I think its more a difference with guys who like stealth performance and guys who like nasty, rumpity, man this car feels fast just sittin here idleing performance.
Nothing wrong with either one just what you like.

Re: Are poly motor mounts too harsh for a daily driver?

I have them and do not mind them at all. There is slightly more vibration though it's not a big deal. If you want a luxury car that you don't feel anything...our cars are not the ones to have.

To me the question would be similar to one asking, should i go to an aftermarket exaust or stay stock. My response woudl be, if you are concerned about being louder and possibly annoying, then stay stock .

Since the mounts are so cheap, try them, if you don't like them, then go back to stock.

peace
