Which plug wires to unplug so engine won't start for oil pressure check?

I've got a brass fitting and hose hooked up in place of the sending unit right now. Going to crank the engine to see if oil spits out. Already made sure the pickup was in place. Which plug wires to disconnect to ensure engine will not actually start up?

Unplug the ignition coil wire from the optispark. No coil=no spark.

Also pull the injector fuses, so you won't flood the engine.

Well I cranked it for a few seconds. No oil came out so I guess its game over. What's my next step before I rip it apart? I don't get it. All of a sudden it just dropped to 0psi when I was driving but didnt make any noise. I already made sure the pickup was in tact.

Coil wire is attached to the coil, which is attached to the bracket on the front of the driver's side head, along with the IC module. Easier to reach that end of it.

You can also disconnect the gray Opti harness connector on the bracket on the passenger side of the intake manifold. That will eliminate spark and fuel.

If a few seconds is literally what you did, it may not be long enough. I don't know if this is related to some problem you have, but there is nothing in this thread to explain why you are doing what you are doing.

Well to make it simple I'm driving down the road the other day and all or sudden oil pressure drops to 0. No knock or anything, so I'm checking to see if the problem is the sending unit itself or if it indeed has 0psi. I don't understand how it could have 0psi and still run. This is just the cheapest way I could think of to make sure there is still oil pressure. How long should I wait before oil should come out?

You may have to pull the intake and see if the oil pump drive is broken. The are made of plastic and sometimes they break. Heres a link to a billet one that replaces the plastic

I would think 5-8 seconds would suffice. Try a little longer if you don't get anything, but don't overheat the starter. I'd try a mechanical gauge. Some oil squirting out is not a very scientific way of testing.

I stupidly finished my drive all the way home which was about two miles after it dropped to 0psi. I was just so confident it was a false reading because I had just changed the sending unit. Oopsie.

The oil pump drive is easy to replace and you can get a plastic replacement at your local autoparts store if you want. I have known several people who lost oil pressure and it was just the drive unit that had broken. It would be worth checking if you truely have 0 oil pressure. Cheaper and a heck of alot easier to replace than a oil pump. Good luck and keep us posted

Well if really did have 0 psi and it already ran for a few minutes isn't the engine already screwed?

If the car was still running fine when you parked it, i would think it would be worth a try to fix it. Unless you just have the money and WANT to rebuild it.

How long can the engine run without pressure because it gets damage? I would rather avoid catastrophic engine failure if I caused some light damage that would become magnified at high rpm.

So there could be pressure even with no oil being forced out of the hole above the filter?
