Unhappy Please TAKE A STAB at this and PLEASE help me out

I was driving home last night. And The tristate are where i live at, was flooded everywhere due to the rain. I had to go over few poddles and stuff...and then i had to go over this pretty long may be 10 ft long one and I had no choice because that was the only way home for me. After i went over the poddle my car 94 T/a A4 started shaking and wouldn't go over 1500 rpm and at one point seemed like it was about to stall but thank god she didn't and she got me home. After a while i took it out at night to see if it got any better the car would move and then start shaking around 1500-2000 rpm. So i checked the air filter and half of it was wet. So i put on a new one and then got in the car to go to work and the car didn't start in two tries. But the third time i took the key out and then tried again and it started. So i was going to work and the car started shaking and rattleling at 1500-2000rpm but above that the car was running fine. After 4 hour work on my lunch i came home and the car stayed at 1500-2000 range rpm most of the time. So i put her in my drive way and took a part the stock intake system. and Saw water up to the MAF...after that i left the hood open and let her soak up the sun while i was bak at work. Now when i was putting everything bak together i noticed the plastic piece connected to the MAF....after the air filter has a hose connected to it. And i saw a water mark on that spot...so what does that hose connect to and what's the best way to get my baby running like she was before this mishalf...please help me out...i m thinking about taking her to a local mechanic and getting an estime on what might have been affected....so help me out and let me know what u guys think.....

The small hose off the lower intake ducting goes to the AIR pump. Make sure your MAF is dry. Your optispark is probably a bit damp. It may dry out in a few days, but then it may not recover.

Sounds like a case of an opticrap failure to me. If the watermark is all the way up by the air pump or mass air, the opti went swimming. And we all know: OPTI'S CAN'T SWIM.

My money is on the opti puking. Let it dry out and see if it's better, if not be prepared to replace it.

My thoughts exactly!AIR pump or filter being wet will hurt performance but that rotor having to spin through some water will definitely hurt driveability.

Ditto. We had one replaced on a 94Z28 after it took a bath. I would suggest converting it to a vented Opti if yours is truly shot.

Update

I was driving the car around today and thank god i really didn't feel any difference. I just had the Opti and plug and filters changed like a week ago. So I drove it around today i really didn't feel any difference. I took it to my local Strauss discount auto they told me it was fine and it was running fine. But if i wanted to run a diagonistic it would cost me $75 and local firestone told me $95 for a diagonistic. So should i do the diagonistic or no. What do you guys suggest? Please let me know thanx.

Just to add a little insurance, go under the hood and start pulling apart (one at a time) the various connectors, plug wires, etc. looking for signs of water. The harness connector on the Opti is often a problem due to corrosion. Water in the other connectors can mess things up. Simply pull the connectors apart, not forcibly, and make sure they are dry. Use some low pressure air to blow the connectors out, and use some spray type electronics cleaner to make sure the contacts are clean. Look in the individual towers on the Opti body for the plug and coil wires and make sure they are clean, dry and corrosion free. If the fans hit the water, it could have sprayed just about anywhere in the engine compartment.
