Question Please help with SLP CAI install on 97Z >>>

A buddy of mine has a 97 Z28 and bought an SLP Cold Air induction kit. It seems like the whole unit is too long and pushes the MAF sensor way to the left and compresses the hell out of the rubber bellows going into the throttle body. He verified with SLP that he has the correct one for 97 (the one for 93-95 has a longer tube).

Is there some trick to getting this to fit properly because it it just not going on this car? His car is otherwise stock.

Thanks.

I have it on my 96, It may be longer....i dont remember the difference between my stock air box and the SLP...but yes its a PITA to get my bellows back on but they go on. This is normal but no big deal. That CAI is DEFINITELY worth the money.

well its my only mod and it fits just fine, had to squeeze it in a bit between the radiator and the ABS brake like i believe. but the length was a good fit. Is there a part # on the CAI itself, I cant remember right now....might have sent you the right box but with the wrong CAI inside... It has happened to me before on other things.

The 93 unit is longer, since the 93 LT1's don't have MAF's.

The 94-97 CAI's should all be the same length.

So long as it isn't pushing so far that it causes the elbow to come off the throttle body, it isn't a big deal.

It's definitely the right part as it looks exactly as it should for the 97. The 93-95 version looks definitely longer and does not look like the part he has.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Why would the 93-95 CAI be longer? The intake setup from 94-97 is the same, and 93 is different because there is no MAF.

Please explain.

It's just gonna be a tight fit. The factory elbow has some ribbing for compression on the MAF side... I know when I test-fitted my GMPP intake (same part as yours) with the stock elbow it was a tight fit.

Squeeze the ****... it'll fit!
