Please Help: Opti or Wires
Please Help: Opti or Wires
This is a long one but I'll start from the beginning...
I installed a new opti 2 years ago but tightened the lower drivers side hose on the water pump on the curve. Needless to say it killed the new opti.
Fastword two years and I decided to get it running again. I installed a new opti today with no leaks. Its a cheaper one from ebay from a dealer that sells a lot of them. I know everyone is gonna say spend the money to get a good one but, I have a ton of college debt and am about to begin a masters program that wont afford me the time to work. So money is tight.
I changed the oil and put some air in the tires and took it down the road.
My problem is there seems to be a miss or something at very low rpms (<2100). It shacks so damn bad the gear shifter feels like its coming off. It seems to go away the higher the rpms get. The car does noticeably lack power. After not driving it for 2 yrs I thought it would impress me to drive something with power again and it didn't.
I know all of this is indicative of an opti issue. However if say I mixed the #4 and #6 wire up would this cause it? I am 95% sure I have them correctly but murphys law says other wise.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Please Help: Opti or Wires
From my understanding, if you did have 6 and 4 backwards, wouldn't it backfire?
Honestly, if reversed wires is the issue, try switching them.?
The Opti may not be the problem, an easy way to check that is to WOT in 5th doin ~25.
Which Opti did you buy from Ebay? Was it produced by Chandler Motorsports?

I thought if they were reversed it would at least have a noticeable miss throughout the rpms.
So in 5th wot what rpms should I start at? If its the opti what symptoms would it present.
Yea that was the opti I bought.

Yes It did sit for 2 years with the same fuel and NO stabilizer. I wasn't sure if it was needed but apparently I should've invested in a bottle.
I am very confident on the indexing of the spline. Its very hard to get it wrong IMO and the bolts went on fine without drawing the opti to the block which I believe would happen if it was not indexed correctly.
Thoughts?

Re: Please Help: Opti or Wires
I'd run a lot of injector cleaner through it. Might even be worth pulling the rails and cycling the injectors (into glass containers) to make sure they are spraying.
As hard as it may seem to index the Opti incorrectly, is appears based on the posts we've had here over the past 13 years, that about 10% of the installs manage to go bad. We just checking.

Re: Please Help: Opti or Wires
Just got around to checking on the car out today. I checked the wires and I had the #4 and #6 swapped. I switched them and it ran like a champ. Definitely can hear the loop in the cam now.
Thanks everyone for all of your help, I greatly appreciate it.
