Today I had the AC system on my car charged because it didn't work. So they hook up this totally awesome machine that sucks it all out, flushes it with oil, then performs a 15 minute vacuum test (it passed graciously), then adds the refrigerant and oil back to the system to the specified 2 lbs. Needless to say it didn't work. I spun the compressor by hand and it moves freely so I assume its a bad wire or something. I start troubleshooting. I find the two wires going to the compressor are burnt from the exhaust manifold. So, I rewire them and nothing. I decide to check the pressure switch to see weither or not it is functioning. I simply ground it and the car kicks in to A/C mode, but no compressor. The car idles up the fans come on and all is well, but no compressor. So I decide to check the compressor clutch by (w/car off) adding a 12 volt source and ground to the two wires coming from the compressor. Click the clutch engages. So, I hook up a manual switch by the battery. Turn the car on flip the switch to engage the clutch. Car kicks into A/C mode again (higher idle, fans on) This time I have freezing cold air. Obviously the system can not stay like this, so I check the voltage from the wires that come from the wiring harness. I get a negative .04 when grounding out each wire (to block) and 0 volts when measured using the two wires together. So, my question is, where do I go from here? Could something have been fried when the wires were burnt? Where do the wires from the compressor go? Can someone possibly take a picture of the wire configuration behind the alternator? I had to take out a section of thick black something or other. There are a few wires that loop around oddly in that area and I need to make sure that I have hooked it back up correctly. I believe that I did. Any help would be great, thanks everyone!

 

Does your cruise work?

Under the hood in the fuses, there is an A/C and Cruise fuse. Make sure it is not blown.

Next swap the ABS and AC relays. If the ABS lights up on your dash, or the A/C is working good, then you need a new A/C relay. The reason I say use the ABS relay is that the P/N on the top of them are the same.

 

HOLY, SHEET, I was just getting ready to ask about the cruise control, do you think my fuse blew when it grounded out. The damndest simplest things. Ayyy Carumba! Let me go check that.
