If your qusetioning the tstat and how it might not be working, i say buy a new one. They are CHEAP AS HELL. It couldnt hurt and this way you'll know its not messed up or will get messed up as quickly cause its new.

Well I say just change it since it is out. My car was running hot and I changed it as a starting point to see if that was the problem. Sure enough it was. It was still opening and closing but at the wrong temp. Just make sure you get the right one because a standard sbc thermostat will not work. I think they are under 10 bucks for a new one.

I say test it....here's why:

You need to know what the problem is and testing it is easy.

Put the thermostat in a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Use a cooking thermostat to see what temp the auto thermostat opens.

Simple. Then you'll know for sure!
