Angry Please advise...heater doesn't blow hot for long...

Hello all. My dad's '97 WS6 has a bit of a heating problem. Sometimes it will blow hot air for a short time, but then it slowly reverts to blowing lukewarm or even cold air. We've bled the air out of the cooling system and added all the water that the radiator would take. It doesn't seem to be leaking or anything, but I just cant't figure it out. The car has a 160 t-stat, t-body bypass and a hypertech programmer, but it has had all of these for some time and is only just now displaying a problem. WTF?? My dad is freezing his @$$ off.
Please help,
B.J.

There is a post about this almost every day. Remove the hoses and flush the heater core both ways with a garden hose until it is clear. It is clogged up.

It could be due to the 160 stat. I know since my car almost never gets above 160, I need to keep a good coat with me and I've just gotten use to it. I've flushed the whole system, but it still doesn't get warm in mine, unless the temp goes above 180. But give the heater core a shot, it could be clogged

It's the 160 stat... mine's the same way... as soon as I put in the thermostat, unless I'm sitting in traffic for long periods of time, it blows luke warm or cold.

Wow, thats funny because its not my thermostat. I have the 160 and MY heater blows 160-170* heat out. Your heater cores must be getting clogged too. Flush out the heater core then try it! trust me and shoebox, there is a post like these all the time. USE DISTILLED WATER!!!! one of the reasons why its getting a builup is all the minerals that clog up the passageways inside the core.

Also flushing the whols system will tield no results inless you unbolt the hoses and flush both sides of the core out!!!

Its not the 160 stat. I have had a 160 stat for years and no problem with heat until lately and it was the heater core. Probably the heater core.

Shoebox knows, listen to him. If you notice the heater core hose from the pump has a plastic resrictor inline. This makes the flow through the heater core even slower. They clog very easily. My 94 has plugged twice. You have to flush the core like the other gentleman above mentioned.
