for the #1 piston to be completely TDC, the arrow points just a little past 12 0'clock. I dont know if it is for sure, since Im not lookin straight at it, but does this sound right?

sounds like someone didnt have it straight up when they installed it. when I had mine apart, I used a chisel to make a line pointing straight up on the end of the crank while i had the timing dots perf. lined up. that will give me a easy way to make sure the hub is lined up while Im reinstalling it.

but, it wont hurt anything at all. they are neutrally balanced. it can be on there any position you want to put it on. the only reason I cared to mark it and reinstall it straight up is for lashing the valves.
