Pinging heard after cam/head work

Got the hotcam, headers, ported heads with 2.00/1.60 in/ex valves.
I haven't driven it much as a couple of gremlins need to be worked out. One of them is a small idle stumble. My main concern know is pinging I hear. Could it be bad gas? or too much timing from the PCMforless chip?

I think the pinging you are hearing is detonation. I would send your chip back to Pcmforless and have them look at it.

He is a nice guy, but his timing work was way off on my setup, but on the conservative side not aggressive timing. I still have the file but I couldn't even use it it was so far off. I started fresh with a tune on the net as my baseline.

Hope you can get it sorted out.

Hi,
Some areas of Southern Florida seem to have a tendancy to ping. If you get a chance email Alvin our Chip programmer at chips@pcmforless.com and he can pull some timing out for you if necessary. There are some areas here in the states that the gasoline octane rating, the additive, or the elevation cause issues. Massachusetts, California, Las Vegas, Southern Florida are just a few of these.
Dr M. If you want I can sent you a new file with a much more agressive timing table to try, It's been a while but I believe your order sheet had mentioned you only had access to 91 octane (or something to do with gasoline quality) so I eased off on your timing. I believe at wot the most I ran on your car was 33 or 34 degrees whereas I typically can put in up to 38.
Later,
Bryan

Yep, 91 MTBE. I can show you what I ran, but low end was gutless, it was so far off I just started off with what in the wild. I still have the original file sent to me as well though. The balance was also pretty different.

I'm sure you would have liked to have fixed it, but I was hoping to score a good baseline off the get go, experimentation with another file netted me some good luck.

No Problem, if you ever decide you want anything new to try, or spin it on the dyno and have an air/fuel printout and need any fine tuning just let me know.
Thanks,
Bryan
