Re: PICS KOOKS and Custom Y Pipe

The whole thing with lowered cars and longtubes is such BS.

My hookers hit like once or twice. I have NEVER hit my pacesetters. Ive heard the kooks are really tight too.

Just be careful and dont hit speed bumps at 50mph, and you will be fine.

Kudos for Kooks! I just installed them on my 383 build. Best headers i've ever installed. They wen't right in with by BMR K-member. Bummer is I had to ditch the stock oil cooler. Low oil sensor had to go too with the 6qt Canton pan, but I never saw a low oil level in 10 years, so who cares. Could have kept that if I still had a stocker pan. On the positive side, execellent quality and I had all my plugs in and wires on in about 20 minutes. They have designed them nicely.

Hmm I plan on going with a Moroso pan I wonder if I will have this problem with the 1 7/8 Kooks I ordered?

For never rusting out, fitting perfect, not leaking and never having to be replaced I wouldn't say they are too expensive.

Quality costs $$$$

Bret: IMO, even the "crap" is expensive! Might as well "buck" up the extra bucks.

Re: PICS KOOKS and Custom Y Pipe

I just got a set of Kooks stepped 1 3/4-1 7/8 stainless w/ emissions fittings and Y pipe for my set up...If they fit and perform like I hear they should, then they are worth every penny...We'll see if I can't see some better track times switching from shorties to these things.. I have access to a brand spanking new Mustang dyno with 1/4 mile simulation, etc...I'm doing a before and after test...shorties to LTs...For anyone curious, I'm sure I'll have it done in a few weeks...

Thumbs up Re: PICS KOOKS and Custom Y Pipe

I just installed a set of the Kook's stepped race version LT's. I went ahead and swapped the motor mounts out a little before the install because I didn't want ANY clearnace issues. Had to delete the factory oil cooler. Both of mine went in from the bottom with a normal height jackstand sitting on the ground, not on a bunch of blocks like I've heard some had to do. Only had to jack the motor up for the passengerside header and didn't have to remove the starter. I also took out the factory oil dipstick tube and bought the Lokar stick. Only thing I did on the driver's side was take the steering connection out. Didn't have to jack the motor up for this side. I would say all in all, it was easier than I thought people said it was. First header install I've ever done. I don't know if it helped or hurt, but for bolts, what I did was run to the local hardware store and bought some high grade allen head bolts. I then cut the short side of the allen wrench in half and was able to tighten the bolts very easily. The allen head on the bolts gave me a little more clearance from the primaries. The original bolts rubbed just a little making it hard to turn by hand.

So, Kook's get's my vote. I figure for $820, you can't go wrong when you never have to upgrade to a bigger exhaust or replace it when it rust out because the coating wore off.

Re: PICS KOOKS and Custom Y Pipe

Wish Kooks had the provision like FLP's and could swap to ORP or Cats at the drop of a dime. Then I'd jump on a set. Guess that's why they are able to tuck them up nicely using slip on pipes vs the aircraft clamps that FLP uses for swapping cats to orp and such.

820 for a set? Not bad at all.
