Picked up an additional 10 to 15psi in Oil Pressure

Went to replace the O Ring on my oil cooler assembly due to a slight leak. Pulled off the assembly to clean surface oil and grime. Discovered during cleaning that the cooling fins internal the the assembly were clogged with what appeared to be ground up RTV. Used two cans of carb cleaner and compressed air to clean out the RTV gunk. After reassembly, oil pressure is now up an additional 10 to 15psi. Running 22 to 24 psi at idle with engine running at 185.

A wonderful unintended consequence.

Hi man,

What vehicle is this on? I haven't confirmed yet if mine has one (oil cooler assembly), but I currently have a bit low oil pressure that I think is related to Castrol GTX 5w30 high milage oil I just put in it a few weeks ago.

If, for example, someone went ape shiat putting RTV on the pan gasket that then squishes "into" the engine side (or any gasket that is exposed to the interior of the engine) that RTV breaks down and little pieces can (see pic) REALLY affect the oiling system. This is when I stopped letting anyone else work on my motors

I guess I went a little ape shiat on the intake manifold RTV because the RTV plugging the cooler was a mix of black and orange - colors I have used for sealing the front and back of the intake manifold.
