Oil Pressure Q's

well my car is acting a little funny oil pressure-wise. basically it's bleeding down somewhat at WOT in the last couple hundred rpms, went from 70psi to like 60psi. I didn't really notice this problem until after I had developed a bad oil leak (smoke coming from under car at WOT, oil all over tc inspection cover, tranny pan, passanger side header and passanger side exhaust) also the car will smell like burnt oil immediately after a WOT pull. I was wondering if an oil leak at a high pressure point could cause a bleed down in pressure or any irregularities like pressure bouncing around somewhat at idle and cruising.

also I've yet to ever try a mechanical gauge out and was wondering exactly where you would hook it up. thanks reading.

Theres a hole in the block on the side of the motor right above the oil filter. It's 1/4" NPT and is a direct outlet from the pump after the filter.

Mine did something very similar following a rebuild when my pickup was a little to high off the bottom of the pan. Oil is likely climbing up the back of the pan under hard acceleration causing the pickup to suck up some air. If you are still seeing 60 PSI you should be fine.

When I smelled burnt oil under hard acceleration I had an oil leak at the rear of my intake manifold and it dripped onto my exhaust. Use an inspection mirror and see if the rear of your block has any oil on it. Used to be a very common problem on these cars from the factory.
