People who have installed Hooker LT inside Please!

Well hopefully i will be installing a set of hooker long tube headers here soon.

And i was wondering if ya'll had to raise the motor up inorder to install them?

If not how high did you have to jack it up to and did they go in from the top or the bottom?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: People who have installed Hooker LT inside Please!

I removed the spark plugs, unhooked the steering link, removed the oil dipstick, the driverside I put in from the top but it probably would have been easier from the bottom I put a small dent in my valve cover trying to get the header in there, If I would have taken the valve cover off it would have dropped right in. The passenger side slid right in from the bottom but was a pain to bolt up since I didnt have anyont to hold it in place while I started the bolts. But all in all they went in easier then my short tube pacesetters. good luck!

how much worse is installing them on a car with the A/C stuff still on the car. Im sure itll be worse, but just how much worse? Would having the transmission out while installing it help any? I wanna send my trans out to be rebuilt while i do the header install.

My car still has a/c thats not even an issue with installing headers. I never even removed the alternator. having the trans out wont make a difference either its not close to the headers at all.

Having the tranny out might help with sticking them in, but leave them unbolted. When the headers are bolted up the trans is a pain to put in/out. The LT headers fit in pretty easy from the bottom, especially if the car is jacked up high and on jackstands.

Re: People who have installed Hooker LT inside Please!

has anyone had trouble with the driver side header when you attach the rest of the exhaust to it? the cross piece that runs over and the crossmember bolts to is right in the way, I'll either have to try to bent the header down slightly or bend up the sheetmetal on the undercarriage also the fuel lines run across at this point I guess I'll tuck them up as tight as I can and try to wrap them with something? Any suggestions.

On my hooker LT's, I had to raise the motor (but i was doing new mounts anyway) and I also dropped the engine cradle a few inches to get the required wiggle room. The dipstick, starter, and steering shaft also came out.

Re: People who have installed Hooker LT inside Please!

I removed the dipstick, starter, steering linkage, oil filter and I had the tranny out for a rebuild.
My auto went in just fine with the headers bolted up.
I did not have to raise the motor to get them in and mine went in from the bottom real easy.
I did have the car pretty high in the air and I think thats the key to getting them in from the bottom without jacking the motor up.
I reccomend relocating all the wires that need relocated while the manifolds are out and before the headers go in.
I did all of my wire relocating and clearancing while I had the room and its still time consuming install but you will have less headaches after the headers are in.
