Dan, You should hit your target range of 330-350 with the headers, cai, cat back, rr's, cam, tb?, msd?, wires?, LT4 KM, tune, and a couple of other little things. It you're not looking for that much power...380+ then I wouldn't worry about it. Depending on your beast, it could quite possibly make 330+rwhp with those mods...good luck with it all. Dont get too frustrated, it will all work out.

Ok, first off, I'm a royal pain in the ***. Believe me (and lots of other people). I want my cake, and I wanna eat it too. Here's the situation:

My car is a B4C model. 1 of 668 made. Now, I don't know if the car will be worth any more than a standard Z28 in the future, or what.....but just because of that in itself, it means something to ME. I don't want to venture real far from stock for this reason alone. I don't want to port/polish heads, etc. I don't want to do anything that's not reversible. That's why I'm looking for just some mild enhancements and don't want to go *****-out.

But at the same time.....I want power. I'm trying to find the "happy medium." I understand I'm not going to get all the cake and eat it......but I want at least a layer. Get it?

Does anyone have the part#s on the Hot Cam setup? I've got a GMPP catalog but it only has a part# for the cam. There is a "350 Hot Cam" kit, but I don't think that's what I'm looking for. It states it's an "offroad" setup.

The part about the LT4 Hot Cam states this: "The LT4 camshaft 24502586 was designed to be used in a number of different engines. Therefore, the following change may need to be made to allow for correct assembly of the engine." Then it goes into dowel in ends doing this and that and blah blah blah.

If I'm not mistaken the part number for the LT4 Hot Cam Kit is 12480002. Retails for $475.30 at the dealer.

Drew, in the catalog it CLEARLY states that this is an "offroad" kit that is designed for showroom-stock racing. I think that means that it's not emissions-friendly.

check out www.gmperformanceparts.com or call Jason Cromer. I live in Cali and we have tough smog laws. Many out here run the Hot Cam and pass emissions. For computer programming, I went with www.pcmforless.com and I've been very pleased. He's got some good Hot Cam programs.

You can send him your computer or you can purchase TunerCat or LT1 Edit (depending on year). I use my FreeScan program, connected to my ECM, then run the car.... collect and save the .csv file and email it to Bryan along with the .bin file (following me).... Then, when he tweaks the .bin file, I download it and test again... works great and only 5 minutes of downtime to program.

Or you can mail in your PCM (which is what I did the first time).

Good luck... you can pass with a good program. You're not cheating, you are just calibrating your engine for higher efficiency.

Thanks for the tips, Wild. I've actually been looking into www.gmpartsdirect.com and they seem to have decent prices. The LT4 HC kits are running $670s according to their site through GM. They're offering the kit for $475.

I dunno WTF to do. I've heard sooooo many different stories it's unreal. How tough is it going to be for this car to pass emissions with this HC setup? I'm not too keen on sending away my computer and getting it back totally wiped out. I had that happen with a faulty Hypertech Programmer (they're ALL faulty) and sent it back to them to have the computer reflashed. I got it back and no dice. LUCKILY it was covered by warranty. It was an absolute nightmare.

My hot cammed car passed im240 roller emissions in Wisconsin running pig rich. Go with either the hc or a cc 305 and you will be happy. I leaned my program out and made 12more whp and about 15more wtq. It should pass by alot more next sniffer test.
If you want it to sound more stock with less lope at idle get the 305.
I hope this helps you make your decision.

Thanks for the info, Kory.

Who does a good reprogram for the HC setup? Any ideas? Prices? Will LT1 Edit work?

I am telling you once!!! Get the Hot Cam!! It is emission friendly. In fact I have not heard of anyone failing cause of the cam. I passed a strenuous roller test right after I finished the install with long tubes. No problem. As far as extensive tuning? www.pcmforless.com

Bryan over there has the Hot Cam tune nailed. In fact I will be sending my PCM back to him to get a couple other things "tweeked". You will regret going with the LT4 cam. That is only my opinion but it is a strong one... My times & HP are in the signature below...

Jason Cromer sells the Hot Cam Kit for $460ish to your door....

Good Luck

My little brother should be making around 370-380rwhp. He has LT4 Hotcam kit, Hooker Longtubes, offroad ypipe, PCMforless program, stock heads with a stage one porting, K&N FIPK and a 160 thermo.
That Z28 pulls all kinds of ridiculous. It is very smooth, but at the same time there is no denying that there is a "slightly" different cam in there. He ran a Procharged 98 Cobra with full exhaust and ran side-by-side from a 20 punch. From a stop he put about 1.25 cars on him up to about 50mph.

I told him I was interested in a Hot Cam setup, and he basically told me that it would take major computer recalibrations to get it to run right, plus there was a good chance it would not pass emissions because the Hot Cam is an "offroad" cam.

I'm not looking for the biggest cam I can throw in an LT1, or the biggest possible gain. I'm looking for something that's going to give it a little bit more power, and will comfortably sit in traffic and drive like a stocker without any hiccups.

This is very similar to what I had in mind for my car, and heck I'm a 46 year old fossil with 2 kids in university, who proably doesn'
t make more than 10 1/4 mile passes in a year.

Anyway, I went with the hot cam, and a pcmforless tune. It works BEAUTIFULLY. Pulls like an animal up at the top end, and made for a very respectable improvement around 3000 rpm. Idle has just a bit of chop to it, sounds fabulous.

I wouldn't even consider doing all the work of installing a cam unless it was for something that provided substantial gains like the hc.

Hussain, my intention obviously wasn't to "hijack" your thread in the first place. I just figured it would be kind of pointless to start an entire new thread when both questions could probably be answered in one of them. Sorry if that's the impression you got.
