PCV Filter Question

97 Z28 A4. Manual says to check the PCV Valve by unplugging it and shaking to see if it rattles, or start car and check for vacuum. I did, no rattle or vacuum. Also appears to have no vacuum on the TB port. A little oil in the line also. Any help please?

Re: PCV Filter Question

I think you are looking at the hose that goes from the back of the passenger side valve cover to the TB. This is not the PCV valve. Its a vent for the system that only has a plastic elbow and a hose. The PCV valve is actually in the intake on the driver's side. Its fairly common for there to be a little oil in that line because of all the "oily air" in the valve cover and a little "blow by." Some people cap it off and install a breather. I left the line hooked up and put a breather on my oil fill pipe. I don't have any problems doing this, but I'm told that its supposed to be a sealed system and now I'm letting unregulated air in the system. I dunno. Its been fine for 10 years and its cut down any oil in that line...

Re: PCV Filter Question

The line I checked ran from the passenger side valve cover (plugged into the top of it) and ran to the passenger side of thw TB. No rattle and it wasnt plugged, I blew through the hose and it wasnt blocked. -shrug-

Like ABA said the pcv valve is on the driver side intake look for a u tube. Once you locate it pull it out and check it out for being clogged. You can use spray carb clearner, or buy another one for like $3 bucks.

Re: PCV Filter Question

It isn't going to rattle because you aren't shaking the PCV valve. For the third time.... its located on the driver's side of the intake manifold:

Re: PCV Filter Question

Just because it rattles, doesnt necessarily mean its functioning properly..

Re: PCV Filter Question

You need to READ the answers people are posting. ABA383 already told you that "Its a vent for the system that only has a plastic elbow and a hose."
