PCV Catch Can

OK, would I be going down the right road by ducting from PCV to a catch can?

The intent is to eliminate the issues with excessive oil getting into my intake because of my constant high RPM road racing.

I am intending to also plug the breather from TB to the valve cover. I would then recalibrate the MAF to compensate.

Is this the correct route to go?

Thanks all!

well im not sure what kinda can your talking about ( got pics/ brand/ pn?) but i have a nice anodized red one where theres both an inlet and an outlet,

the inlet is the line coming from the valve cover, the oily air goes in and theres like a metal mesh that catches all the oil, then the outlet goes into that line that goes to the T.B you were talking about.

on the bottom of the can theres a pepcock to drain all the oil that has collected in the container

hope that helps some,

You need to do it with the method sn8ke eatr has. There will be no effect on the computer.

Yes it does. What info can you share on yours? Do I need to worry about oil from the PCV side also? sounds like you are accomodating the TB breather only? Is this the only source of oil generally?

An epiphany:

I don't have to pass emissions. What is wrong with just plugging the TB breather and having the valve cover vent with a filter? Further, just have the PCV vent to the atmosphere through another filter? (of course plugging the inlet to the manifold from the PCV)

This would eliminate the vacuum issues.

...and the best crankcase evacuation method.

You need air flow through the crankcase to pull the water (and other) vapor out. Even the crudest engines of the 1950's had a "draft tube" to help evacuate the crankcase.

oil from the pcv side is a different story. you could either run a line and with a fitting direct it to the same catch can, or run another one on the other side of the engine

open breathers are an option but i know when i had one oil used to get all over my valve cover, especially at long duration high rpm when the whole evacuation system is needed most
