PCM tune for race headers?

I'm about to install my long tubes and they have no provisions for AIR and EGR. I'm also going catless, but I've got sims for that. My question is would a PCM tune take care of the problems that might arise from deleting the AIR and EGR systems? Also, to refresh my memory, what problems could come with deleting those systems?

On another note, I get the evap purge code all the time. Can I have the PCM tuned to where that code will stop showing? It's really making me mad and I don't know if the SES light is on for just that or a real problem. That's the crap thing about the SES light, it doesn't distinguish what's going wrong.

won't get ride of the evap... you probably have a clogged line, or a hose popped off/ is cracked.

The SES light comes on to tell you that you need to have it scanned for codes. What is the EXACT code you are getting for the EVAP system? Were there any other codes present when you pulled that one? Just to be clear, are you talking about a 1997 LT1?

It was a while ago that I had the car scanned and the code, I believe, was P0114...or something of that nature. I remember I came here and searched for it and it came up with evap purge. There were no other codes present at the time. Yes, it is the 97 LT1.

Edit: I don't guess that code exists...I'll have to see about getting it scanned another time. Sorry, it's just been a long time so I don't remember the exact number. Looking through some lists of codes, I think it might have been p0441.

I always make sure the fuel cap is screwed on correctly...I don't believe that was the problem.

check the codes... could be a vaccum line that popped off/dry rotted/clogged line..... easy fixes that won't cost you anything.

if you are no longer utilizing your air pump/egr, that will throw a code, unless you have it programmed out.

I haven't installed the headers yet...the entire exhaust system is still stock. I guess I'll see about getting the car scanned this weekend some time.

Also i know MADZ28.com has a option for long tube headers , no cat , and remaval of egr air , so i guess it will help in a tune . I had hime tune my PCM and i selecter LT Headers , no cat and delate egr and air . and i still have not installed the headers and y pipe yet . and its runs great after the tune . well run even better when i do the headers and y pipe .

I say get it tuned after you do the install . a TUNE was my Best Bang for thr BUCK Option . IMO

check your codes... see what the problem is. Don't go around installing headers on a "broken" car..... it will be easier to isolate the problem without adding mods.

In other words.... figure out why the check engine light is on... fix it... add headers, and get a tune
