by-passing the heater core good or bad and how

I am tring to knock out the heater core as a reason for my car overheating. So i was thinking about by-passing it for a week or 2.

Is this a good idea or will it cause problem

also how would you do it?

I feel 99.9999999% confident in saying its not your heater core.. They heater cores are heated by the engine coolent, even if it was clogged it wouldn't heat up, in fact a clogged heater core will be cold because coolent from the motor wont pass threw it.. You got problems elsewhere if its overheating. Are your fans coming on at all?

If your heater core was clogged, it would be nearly the same effect as being by-passed, so the heater core is not your problem.

well is it posable that the heater core is some how letting air into the system?

is there any reason not to by pass it? If not i would like to atleast try it it maybe one of thoseo.ooooo9% things

I just want to know for peace of mind

Well if you really want to bypass it just loop a hose from the inlet to the outlet on the water pump. Thats not your problem though. If it was letting air into your system there would have to be a hole somewhere and the pressure behind the coolent when it is hot is MUCH stronger then any "outside" air pressures so it would spray coolent everywhere, not let air in. Have you opened your bleeder screws to see if there is any air in the system? There isn't too many veriables it could be.. bad water pump, stuck thermostat (though i believe they are fail "safe" meaning fail open not closed), temp sending unit to the PCM to name a few.. What are your simptoms, how do you know your overheating? Is your SES light on? If all your going by is what the gauge tells you then perhaps your sending unit for your gauge is screwed up, it is in the drivers side of the head and not what the PCM uses.. Are you fans coming on? If so, which ones, low, high or both? Give us some detail and perhaps we can help you out better..

well i haveosted my problems sevral times but maybe you can give me something to check the others didnt,

I am overheating about once a week
high and low fans are comming on as programmed by madz28 i have a 160 hypertech thermo and have bought a new stock thermo and both worked fine
checked bottom of water pump while car was running and didnt see any leak or signs of a past leak
no water dripping any where from under the car and no damp spots inside the either

i have seen a small amount of smoke/steak comming out of the exhaust a few times in the morning and later after noon never when driving ( making me think it was a head gasket going out) but the last time i saw the steam it had created about a dime size drop inside the exhaust, the water was crystal clear and i tasted it and it tased like pure wated no antifrez in it at all. so i am thinking maybe the steam was just from condesation i have a leaky header primary too i dont know if that would cause more condensation or not (LT headers).
So as of yesterday i have filled the entire cooling system with just antfrez to see if next time it steams if i can smell or see any atifrez in it.

next steps for me are
by-pass heater core
borrow a stock water pump or buy a new electric one
if all that doesnt work i duno what else to do

(BTW i beat the hell out of the car all weekend trying to make it smoke with a friend behind me all day and saw not a single cloud of smoke but late satur day after following my mom on a back road going 30 -40 MPH it overheated

BTW2 it seems to overheat most of the time after i have drove for a while then stoped for like 10 min the start driving agin about 80% of the time when it overheats this is what happened

So i would love to hear your sugestions on what to check and what might be the cause

Thanks for your time!

hmmm What does the oil look like? If that looks good then my guess would be the water pump spinning on the shaft. Was it also your post I was reading that said there was nothing but air coming out of the top bleader? If that is the case, that would make sence if the water pump is just spinning on the shaft and the fins arent spinning.. it wouldnt cerculate the water to push water out the bleeder screw.. Sounds like the culprit to me.. Perhaps that is why sometimes it overheats and sometimes it doesn't as well, under load it breaks loose from the blades of the water pump.. Well thats my guess for what its worth..

Craig

P.S. Sorry didnt see the post where you listed your problems..
