Passing gear on a 97 z

Does a 97 z with traction control have a passing gear? I think my intire problem is this. It idles rough, and it will only shift manuely and it only does this when it wants too. I remember in my mustang when the passing gear wasnt hooked up, it acted real funny. I did a search and people said that the TPS would cause it to idle wierd and not shift firmly. IS this true or did i just comprehend this wrong?
thanks

Passing gear? You can't "unhook" any of the gears in our cars. Automatics have four forward gears, the 4th is overdrive.. when cruising around 75 mph or so if you punch the gas, it's going to shift down into 3rd.. which I guess you could call your "passing gear"

Electronically, it's a computer controlled transmission
