Wouldn't take long at the shop - drop the engine cradle and work on the engine out of the car. The benefit of having a lift is great.

Engine can be dropped out of the car out the bottom without a lift in a few hours.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Are we thinking thats the best way? I dont have a lift here, but a buddy's garage has one that puts dealships to shame. Although I'm not sure if he wants me car tore apart for a week there. Who know's who loves helping me do everything else...and he's a former mechanic turned GM Lordstown tech

At least I know Grease would do a good job if I took it there and it would be degree'd right, lubed right, geometry would be dead on, etc

I think I'll never do another heads/cam install with the engine in the bay again. It's just not a clean way of doing things.

You can pick up the front end of the car plenty high enough with a cherry picker to drop it out the bottom. Some big 6 ton jackstands and you're set.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

I have access to a cherry picker and I think my buddies jackstands are 5-6 ton. I might actually pull this off after all.

My biggest issue is the cam install. I am so worried about fuggin' that up and causing fatal damage.

Decisions, decisions

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

The cam install is very straight forward, and there's nothing you can't do that a shop can do when putting the cam in. Unless you mean degreeing the cam in? which from what I gather you ordered the kit to do it with.... I prefer the heads off method though, and most of the kits come with the spark plug hole piston stop.

Intake manifold gaskets - Do you think I need to use LT4 or port LT1's to work?

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Well, I my marbles turned into brass over the last few days and I think I'm going to go '***** to the wall' and do this myself. I have a my grandpa's cherry picker right next door and a 3 car garage to do the work in. Plus plenty of buddies offering to lend a helping hand. I'm going to do the cradle out of body route so its easier for me to get access to everything, keep it clean, and I trust Javier's opinion on things.
Things I need to buy:

TQ Wrench [Any recommendations]
Borrow or Buy Cam Degreeing Kit

Everything else I think I have.

Javier can you PM me your number so I can ask you some questions about this install overall? Thanks.
