Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Am I overlooking anything for my Heads and Cam install?

GTP LT4 Heads [Assembled: Springs/valves/studs/rockers/guideplates]
GTP LT4 Intake
AS&M 58mm TB
Crane Hyd Roller Lifters
Comp Cam Magnum Pushrods
Comp Cam CC306
Clloyes Double Roller Timing Set
95+ Timing Cover/ Vented Opti/Wiring Harness/Vent tubes/MSD Coil/Timing cover gasket/WP Gasket
Madwolf PCM Tune
38lb Lucas Injectors
Intake, TB, and Header Gaskets
Impala or Mr Gasket Head gaskets [Depending on exact head CC]
Spark Plugs/Oil/Waterwetter/Coolant
Cam Lube
Cam Degreeing Kit
Hub/Balancer Pullers [Rent from Autozone]
Pushrod Length Checker
ARP Head Bolt Kit
Prayers for the bearings

What type of RTV do I need for the Intake Manifold?

Any other parts or special tools I'll need? Summit is right down the road and my friend's dad has a tool truck, so its not a problem to go pick something up if I need it. Thanks.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

To seal the the intake I like "the Right Stuff"

Did I miss your thread sealant?

I am also a believer in loctite for things like the cam bolts, motor mounts etc and never sieze for parts that go into aluminum that I may want to remove like the Spark plugs; I guess it comes from all my years wrenching on my Pan Head!
Good luck on your install!!!
Mike

Dustin - get "The Right Stuff", pricey but worth it. Triple check over everything and you'll be fine.

The Right Stuff being quality parts or a type of sealant. Where can I find this?

Yea I am hopefully going to have 3-4 people each triple checking everything. I was going to pay Big Shot [Waswa] to do it, but since I'm so "budget" lately and have a ride to work I'm going to have a go at it myself. Hey I have to learn sooner or later.

Thanks guys.

The Right Stuff is made by Permatex and it's in an aerosal type can. Like $13 a can or so.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

I probably only need one can right? Trust me, I only want to do the intake one time, so I'm willing to spend what it takes.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

The black standard hitemp RTV is what I use on everything, and it seals properly for me, I've done 4 intake jobs now, never had a leak.

For the timing cover gaskets/seals, just get the felpro timing cover set from your local autozone, includes the opti seal, wp seal (u don't need this w/ the ewp but..), crank seal, timing cover gasket, and WP gaskets.

Other than that, it looks like you have everything under control... and hey, if you don't.. you can always run to summit.. YA BASTID

Hey Dustin, you need a hand just let me know. I'm not that great with a wrench, but I work wonders making runs for pizza and beer.

We're gonna have to run em --GMR should be done with my LE2 setup Monday or Tuesday. Good luck man.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Javier - Dont be hater cause its a shorter drive to Summit than it is to a Napa, mwuahaha!

matt65 - I'll definately be taking pics. I took pics of the tranny install, but Speed2Much [Lou] has them on his computer trying to get them organized and loaded on our site www.speed2much.com .Take a look if you want, but its primative right now.

Zmaster - The more the better. I enjoy just having guys there for moral/comical/sustainance support. I was going to have GMR do mine, then I found Grease from Big Shot could do it over a weekend, but it was still going to cost me nearly $1k that I'd rather just save for a 355 or something. I'm sure we'll run them sometime, but its going be beast to cruise around with two mean H/C LT1/LT4's. Plus my buddies juiced 93 Z28 and Lou's bolt-on LS1. Its going to be a fun Summer. Im sure we can round up Darkhorse/Handyman/Cantonracer if we're all in A-town.

Thanks guys

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

I would probably skip the cam lube, this is not a flat tappet that needs a heavy lube for breakin. A coating of motor oil is all that is needed.

I got them with low miles from a good friend. I cant remember the part number, but they sell around the $200 mark.

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Dustin, maybe I missed something, but shouldn't you buy the PR length checker BEFORE the PR's? Just making sure?

Re: Parts: Heads/Cam Install

Yes, in theory, but the guy I bough the LT4 Top end and TB from included the pushrods for free. If they fit great, if not I'll get some more.

Now I'm back on the fence about having Big Shot [Grease] do it since I dont want my car down forever.
