parts/cost question

i posted a couple of months ago about blowing up my stock bottom end. it toasted 4 rod bearings, 3 main bearings and split the middle main cap in half. neither the block or crank can be used again, so i've decided to build a 6-inch rod 383. thankfully nothing in the valvetrain was hurt, so my heads, cam and other parts will be going in the new engine. i recently won an ebay auction for a 4-bolt LT1 block; it should be here by the middle of next month.

i want to use a cast steel crank, forged rods and good pistons for my new shortblock. what i'd like to know is where people think i can get the best deal on a rotating assembly. the least expensive assembly that i've found is from nu-tek for $1600 including balancing. are there any other balanced, 6-inch rod 383 rotating assemblies out there for less than that? i won't need a forged crank because the new engine will stay NA and won't see as many rpm (6600) as the 350 did.

any help, suggestions and/or advice is appreciated.

Im building a budget 383 right now...So far the rotating assembly has cost me 880.00 including balancing...

Run down
Scat 9000 crank...205.00 off of ebay
Scat 6" forged rod 235.00 off of ebay
KB dished hyper pistons for 6.0" rod 235.00 from summit
Balancing 200.00

Hope that helps.

sounds like you've gotten some good deals there. unless i run across something that knocks my socks off, i'm probably going to get all new stuff. i know it will take longer to get the car back together and cost a little more than buying stuff piecemeal, but i think the reliability of new parts will be worth it in the long run.
