I'm not sure how important the exact part # is. I run an ATI Super Damper. Its a one-size-fits-all damper..... all LT1/LT4's as far as I know. I run the LT4 extreme duty timing set, with the cam sprocket swiss-cheesed, a solid roller cam with beefy spring pressures, and wind the engine to 7,000+ RPM. ATI would sell you the same damper for a stock LT1 or a stock LT4, or any variations on either of those engine. Its only a harmonic damper, not a balancer. How important is the EXACT part #... I honestly don't know.

As far as the 1st Gen design vs the 2nd Gen design, if GM discontinued the 1st Gen design and only sells 2nd Gen parts, then it should be fine for any LT1/LT4. I honestly don't know... just trying to think through it logically.

The LT4 had some problems with cam torque deflection. They beefed up the cam sprocker weight-wise because of this. The crank is basically the same crank, just finished a little differently. I would suspect the LT4 damper is done to complement/correct the cam torque deflection problems. So the question would be, what damper did GM/SLP put on the 100+ LT4 F-Bodys? Did they do the same thing on the F-Body that they did on the Corvette?

I'm confident they used the thicker (2.08") on the SLPs. The LT4 damper is 2.08". I also believe the LT1 Y body damper is as thick as the LT4 damper. However, it (LT1)is not a dual mass unit, as is the LT4 damper. This would imply the added mass acting as a damper, is comprised of a smaller diameter.

Dug up the following:
