Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
I have the pacesetter LTs on my 96 and the collector on the driver side is so close to the box brace that runs over the the trans crossmember that there is no way i will be able to slip a pipe over it... anyone else have this issue what are you doing about. Any ideas? Thanks - Joel
Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
I think I know what you are talking about, the shop that fabbed up my y-pipe had to have a weird dip in that region and I had a problem with the pipe banging again the body. I fixed that with the good ol hose clamp + rubber hose though. Ill try to get a picture for you tomorrow if I can
Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
Crease the floorboard inward with a bottle jack. If you don't do something about it, it's going to smack the floorboard every time you press the gas pedal, resulting in insanity.
Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
Just talked to Speed Inc. a few hours ago. They are also having a few issues with the fitament of my Pacesetter headers and Y pipe. Drivers side is to close to the floor board and the Y pipe is going to need some modification to make it work. It sounded like they had these problems before. I'm just glade they know how to deal with these set-backs.

I believe it is intentional to get the most ground clearance possible. I get a smack on the floor ocassionally.

Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
Yea, i had a few problems with my set up but i think i got it worked out, my y-pipe didn't fit too well at first so i welded it together and then tacked it onto the headers because it poped off the first time i did a hard 1-2 shift, it works fine now though.
Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
well I posted this because i am thinking about getting the xpipe setup and i was just wondering how all of you have slipped your y-pipe onto it but it looks similar to how mine is right now. I didnt buy the pacesetter y-pipe mine is just custom made. here is a pic of mine, damn things started to rust on me really quick... just the collector area though

Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
Just recently puchased the Pacesetter LT's ceramic coated w/ out emissions.
Installed them when I Installed the new motor, so it was much easier. I even bought the locking header bolts, thinking I wouldnt have to worry about header leaks anymore. On the other hand I wasnt that lucky, Started the car this weekend and turns out I have .15 gap between the header flange and the head, and the header bolts are bolted as tight as they will go. Turns out after taking them back off, the flange had a **** pour surface. Around the bolt holes their is a hump at every bolt hole where they have been in the drill press When you purchase these headers you need to make sure the flange surface is flat, not sure if anyone else has had this problem or if its just me but apperently I got a bad set. Just dont want to have to go through the same problem I went through. All I did was grind down the humps, and its fine now.
Depending on what y pipe you use youll have a clearance issue on the driver side about 3" past the collector on the body cross brace. All I did was slightly dent the pipe a bit more. Sorry for the long chapter of a thread I wrote but I hope it helps.
You can check out my cardomain I have a few pics of the motor before Installed.

Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
nah they werent ceramic, they were black and i stripped them down and sprayed about 3 coats of 1200 degree aluminum color paint... they have only been on there since late september. Yea im pretty upset about that heh, its not rusted up top just down there heh.... oh well they were just cheapies heh
Re: Pacesetter longtube clearance issues
When I installed a set of these, I had a similar problem. I just took a sledge to the floorboard and banged the hell out of it. The floorboards are double sided so you wouldn't ever notice it until you were under the car.
