Radiator Temporary Repair?

I Have A Leak About 1/2" Below The Nut And Pipe That Is Located
Right Underneath Of The Neck Of The Radiator. This Is About 1/2"
From The Coolant Level Sensor. Since This Leak Is A Small Hole And
Its On The Plastic Portion Of The Radiator, Is There Any Product Like Epoxy Or Can I Add A Bottle Of Radiator Repair Into It To
Temporarily Stop The Leak. Its Very Minor Leak And Doesnt Shoot Out A Stream. Its Like It Sweats But At Higher Temps It Expands A Little More And More Leaks. Any Suggestions? Pros And Cons With Epoxy Or One Of Those Bottles That Pours In...can It Harm The Engine Or Water Pump If A Radiator Repair Bottle Is Used>?

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

I've got a radiator from a 95 A4...Make me an offer with shipping in it and you can have it. It'll take about a week to get out there probably, but I got one..

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

whetever that myth is about putting an egg or egg white or somethin like that in a leaking radiator actually works (saw it on myth busters LOL) its cheap and they just put the egg in there and in a few secs it stoped leaking and the radiator they used was streaming out fluid
maybe not the ideal remedy but hey it might work

Yes, there is some kind of product you spread on a radiator leak. Look around the usual suspects, Autozone, PepBoys, etc. Does it work? YMMV

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

Thanks For The Radiator Offer First Of All But I Am Broke Right Now...dont Even Know What I Am Going To Do For Christmas...
.
Now That Egg Myth...i Just Crack It And Pour The Whole Thing In The Radiator And Run The Car? Will I Have To Drain It Sometime?
.
Yes...my Radiator Still Works...i Fill It Up To The Top With A Small 16 Oz Bottle Of Water And Sometimes With Coolant Just To Even Out The Mixture And It Cools Fine. The Car Runs Great. Its Just That With High Temps The Water Rises And More And More Will Leak With Time And Then It Will Start To Overheat But This Is Over A Period Of Like 2 Weeks Cuz I Tried It...hehehe

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

i went to autozone and bought an epoxy style radiator repair kit. it came with the epoxy, fine grain sand paper, and the cleaner (looked like alcohol wipes). i also had a very small hole, but in order for this repair kit to work, i actually had to make the hole bigger (about 1.5 - 2 mm so that the epoxy plug could plug. instructions come with the kit and i have to say it worked. haven't had problems since the repair, and the epoxy seems to hold very, very well. repaired the radiator 3 months ago, and still going strong.

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

drain the raditor below the leak and rough up the crack area with some like 80 grit sand paper clean it well with something to remove the oil (carb cleaner to nail polish remove) use some JB quick. Works pretty well if the leak is clean and dry but consider it temp at best.

BTW i like my eggs scrambled not poched

Btw,
I Also Heard That A Tea Spoonful Of Pepper In The Radiator Will
Work As It Will Run Through The Cores In The Radiator And It Will
Go Into The Crack And Seal It Up....is This True?? Any Possible Damage From This?

I had heard this before too, but have never seen it in action. As was already mentioned, Mythbusters a Discovery channel program, does all sorts of crazy things to prove or disprove myths. The had an engine pulled out, and were doing all sorts of things to it. Sugar, mothballs and bleach in the gas tank for example. Towards the end, they poked a hole into the radiator with a punch. Water was streaming out -I felt it to be larger than most radiator holes I've seen. They then told of the cracked egg in the radiator myth, and cracked it into the open radiator (the car had been running, but was still cool enough to not have any fear of scalding). I'd say within 5 seconds the leak was gone. Completely stopped. They were actually as surprised as I was.

If you're that broke, it may get you through a few days. Or more. Who knows?

Re: Radiator Temporary Repair?

Don't put anything in your cooling system except for coolant and water first off.

Second, as said before, scuff the area, make sure it's dry, and JB weld the hell out of it. This is not a temp fix if done right. I've got cars with JB on them for almost 7 years and they are still going strong
