Pacesetter Long Tube install...

For everyone here that did it themselves... how long did it take you and what was the worst thing you confronted?

Did you guys have to drop the k member or lift the motor?

Jack motor on each side, takes two minutes extra and makes it 50 times easier. Easy as pie if you've done one before.

Jacking up the motor... couldn't I just raise the car more? :-)

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

I just put mine in today and i didn't have to raise the engine at all. The hardest part was taking the edelbrock shorties that were on it off. The Pasesetter LT's fit like a glove. On the driverside I just undid the steering kinkage and they slid right in. Best header install I have had in a long time.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

The install is pretty straight forward, I undid the mounts and jacked the motor up as high as it could go. Jacked my car up all the way too. Just do this before you even try sliding them in. It will make it alot easier.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

I put mine in 3 weeks ago. All I did is jack the car as high as I could and they went right in... Easy as Pie.

With open headers.

You don't even really need to get the car up that high. I just drove up on rhino ramps and jacked the motor.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

I agree that it is not as hard as it's rumored to be.

We put my car on jackstands, and after realizing that the car has to be like 4 feet in the air to put them in from underneath, pulled the alternator and valve covers. Going in from the top was a bit of work, but not nearly as hard as, say, taking the oil pan off of some FWD crap. We left a little coating on the undercarriage, and took a little paint off the shock towers, but nothing major :P

And you'll have to pull the steering linkage if you go top or bottom, I believe.

The y-pipe was super easy, it comes in two pieces. The only thing that sucks is if you have the stock 2.75" pipe. It looks close to 3 inches, but wont even get close when you clamp it.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

I just jacked the car up really high, and they both went in from the bottom with no issues.

Talking Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

Easy install...did not have to jack up the motor at all to put in the headers but did jack it up to replace the motor mounts why I had everything out of the way. Removed the steering linkage, drivers side header slid right in from the bottom. Passenger side slid in from the top. Hint:keep the plastic on the headers until you get them in, keeps from scatching them all up.

The hardest part of the install was getting the dang stock manifolds out. Good luck...take your time and have a little patience.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

Could you get to the manifold bolts from the top?

Did you guys unbolt the Y?

So you guys jacked up the car, unbolted the starter, steering linkage, dipstick tube, and Y pipe... Then just went for the kill taking the sh!tty @$$ manifolds out? I am going to try and jack the car up as high as possible, hopefully that'll be enough. I want to get this job done in one day... starting from about 9AM to about 8PM. With eating breaks in between... etc

Re: Pacesetter Long Tube install...

No special tools really. I used a cutoff wheel along time ago to hack off the AIR system. That was as hard as it got.
