Pacesetter Headers: First Impressions

Well,

I finished installing pacesetter LT's and y-pipe for a customer (96 z28). My first impressions are really good ones. The thermal coating is very nice on these headers. Also, they bolt access and plug access is the best I have seen to date. Much better than my Jet Hot LT's and my SLP mids. The fit is great, and the EGR tube is pretty accessible when bolt-ing to the header (and the tube does not need to be stretched to get back on the intake). I did have to unbolt the pass. side motor mount to get the header in, but other than that it was easy enough.

The y-pipe tucked up nice and tight, but bump some of the protected lines under the car. The one negative is everything slip fits together. The y-pipe to the catabck and the y-pipe to the headers. So once its on, you'll have to make a cut to get it off again, or unbolt the headers and slide the y-pipe off, or finagle the catback off first.

The customer had the LT's, catless y-pipe and hooker catback. His car sounds badazz, but is much quieter at idle than mine was. It did scream though once he stepped on it. Very noticeable power gain and he can now spin the tires from a roll in 1st gear and break them loose going into 2nd gear (which he couldnt do before). Overall, thumbs up for Pacesetter.

What mods are you planning on doing down the road? heads/cam, nitrous, S/C? The Mac's are midlength with 1 5/8" primaries, and the pacesetter are long tubes with 1 3/4"?? I believe they are 1 3/4". I would go with the bigger header, but thats just me. The saying "bigger isnt always better" does not apply when comparing 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" on a 350ci.

Re: Pacesetter Headers: First Impressions

i just installed my pacesetter LT's and y-pipe yesterday, they are great. everything fit perfectly. i just have to ask did everything seal up nicely on the y-pipe with provided clamps, and did it hit the floor boards? my Lt's are up close against the fuel lines and when i take off from a stop it hits the floor boards. i saw a gain of 21hp through an OEM muffler, but im hoping to see a 10hp gain through the cutout. my numbers were 274hp/285tq, but i was running a little lean through the whole run. anyway i have received about a hundred compliments all day today on both the headers and the sound. they also have better ground clearance than my cutout and other Lt's. i think they are one of the best headers on the market at a reasonable price.

Everything seems to have sealed up just fine, but the floor board issue was one that I had as well. Thats the reason it has great ground clearance, because they stick it up tight under the car.

Re: Pacesetter Headers: First Impressions

Good to hear!! I was kinda worried about trying a different header on my 95 compared to the jet hots I put on my 96. I ordered them with the y pipe about a week ago... Getting anxious to get those darn these into this car let alone for them to get to my house!!! Thanks for the info.

realquick, what did you guys do about the y-pipe hitting the floorboards, i went to school today and i didnt hear it hit anything all morning long?

gofast, get these LT's they really gave me a good gain over stock muffler and have better clearance than any other LT's i have seen. also i just have to add the price is right on. my friend spent around $425 for his hooker LT's and they werent even coated. he still had to buy gaskets, 02 ext., and custom y-pipe. total price was around $525+, i got everything for $594 coated with all harware

I was going to pry it down some, but the owner didnt like the idea. He will drive it around and hopefully everything adjusts itself like yours did and the bumping goes away.

realquick, just wanted to know about those fuel lines that sit real close to the collectors. do i have to worry about it getting too hot or maybe i should wrap them in insulators to protect it from the heat?

You could wrap them if it makes you feel better. The lines appear to have a metal insualtion/guard on them already.

I have the same exhaust setup, Pacesetter Lts, catless Ypipe, into the Hooker catback exhaust system. The fit of everthing was great and It sounds badass. Even with a little hotcam it still sounds strong. I didn't have any issues of the headers hitting the floorboards, although they were close. The only issue I had is one of the primaries under heavy acceleration would bump into the steering shaft when the engine torqued over. Are you guys sure thats not what your hearing? Mine seemed to go away after a little bit of driving.

Aaron, its the y-pipe hitting, not the header. Just after the flattened out section of the y-pipe is where it hits.
