Pacesetter bolts ok for use?
Pacesetter bolts ok for use?
ordered a set of LT's with the 1406 gaskets ans was wondering if i could get by with using the supplied bolts? maybe put a lockwasher on them or no? Anti seize is going on the threads no doubt though
I had them on until a couple weeks ago. I ordered new gaskets (1406's) and ARP 1" 12pt 5/16" bolts. MUCH easier to get a wrench on the head of the bolt on every bolt. IMHO worth the $30, plus they are stainless.
What he said. Get the ARP bolts. Especially the 1" version, as the 3/4" long ones provided don't really grab enough threads in the aluminum cylinder heads. Forget the fancy locking bolts; carry your wrench with you in the car and snug the bolts down every time the motor cools down. I did this for a week, and after a while you'll notice that the bolts stop snugging down after a bit; this is the gasket finally taking a 'set'. After doing this your header gaskets will live a long, happy life. I just check mine at oil changes now, haven't had a loose one yet.
Don't forget the anti-seize on the bolts, too.
