did you install those springs yourself? did you compress the crap out of them when you (or whoever) installed them?

Yes I installed the springs myself and there was no need for me to compress the crap out of them because the new valve seals hold the valve up in closed position and I didnt compress them more than just enough to put the locks in.
I used a tool similar to the crane.

I am running the older set of Comp 918 at max lift for the spring. I spun mine high, even pegging the factory tach. All I got was a broken Comp R lifter.

That might just be how the coils stacked up after one broke. Also from that thread there was some discussion of pushrod length. You might want to recheck that yours is correct.

From what I have read, closing a spring down to solid height prior to installing it doesn't hurt it. Some spring makers do that to every spring as part of the manufacturing process.

I'm glad your broken spring didn't cause too much damage.

Good luck.

Thanks

Installed height was 1.75"
And I will for sure check my valvetrain geometry again once I recieve the new parts.

PAC is really taking this serious and I have a new set of springs on the way to me and my broken one is on the way to their lab for analysis.
Lets just say I am very pleased with PAC and their customer service

Are the PAC 1518's stronger? Less chance of breakage or are they just able to handle some extra lift?

I'm not too familiar with metal terminology but I'm guessing Premium Nitrided is a hardening process were the 1518's are made stronger. Could these also prevent the problems some are having with valve float? If so the extra $141 would be worth it. I'm asking because I will eventually be looking for some beehives.

FWIW - I had bought a set of Comp Beehive springs from another member of this site, the 918's that everyone has been talking about here - after I received them is when I started to realize the problems some people on here were having. I contacted Comp Cams and told them I thought I had a set of the bad springs. They asked me if I knew the batch number, which I didn't, and they sent me a new set and took the old set back - no other questions asked. Just seems that Comp has been getting some bad press here lately and I wanted people to know they took care of me as well. Sorry for stepping on your thread.
