Overheating problems

Well I have ruled out the thermostat problem (changed it), fans (they work), air (bled system), and others.... well before this problem my car would never get above 180 since i have a 160 thermo and pcm4less programming. well it gets up to 210 now in the day and like 195 at night..... when i flushed my coolant out last night there was some what looked like exhaust (or something black) in my coolant... not a lot but some..... and my car smokes a lil white when i first start it.... now i was thinking blown head gasket..... how can i make sure this is only a blown head gasket and not a cracked head or what not..... this is my only source of transportation right now... will driving it warp the heads?? also how hard of a job is it to change out the head gaskets.... i mean i'm no mechanic but could i do it?? Thanks...

Re: Overheating problems

have you checked for antifreze in the oil. if you think you have a head gasket leak have a compression test done. its kind of a pain in the butt to get at some of the spark plug holes but other than that ist not hard to do. and if it is a head gasket, if you got the time and the means to do it pick up a chiltons manual and go for it.
