That's awesome man. Just stick up his *** all the time. that's how i learned from my dad. He's badass to with engines and ****. Now i know more than him, he asks me stuff. I also learned dragracing from him, started when i was 14. Now I beat his times in the same car, pisses him off.

But yeah, lets get a REAL cruise together. That would be so much fun. I get my car dyno'd thursday so hopefully nothing breaks!!lol

I'm a little surprised that you guys are having a problem with the idea of putting the Gen I in there, instead of an LT1... one of the main reasons for "hot rodding" is to build/create something that's unique... expressing your own individual ideas. That's why you still see guys building cars with Ford flatheads, early Chrysler hemi's, turbo charged in-line 6's, etc... stuff that's different than what you'd usually expect to see.

totally agree. but there is thousands of "unique projects" that are started each year that will never be completed and wind up collecting dust.

I think what some of these guys are saying is that if you have a gen 1 sbc already built and ready to drop in... why would you try to convert it to wirk with a stock LT1 wiring harness and ignition system? You have other options to make it much easier... you taking all the problems from the LT1 and trying to make them work with an engine that doesnt use them.

And if you are capable of doing all this work to McGuyver this together... why not just take $2000 and rebuild the LT1 back to stock and not be forced to McGuyver all of it.

Or if you go with the old school SBC and want to make it FI... there are also aftermarket systems avalible to do that. No need for you to try and put a square peg in a round hole when there is a proven kit to make it fit.

Or just stick a carb on top, and wire 12v to the ign coil and turn the key...

But if you out to make something unique then you are going the right route here. Modifying the OPTI, TB, injectors, fuel rails, ect. to work in an old school SBC is definately reverse engineering...

Square pegs belong in round holes. That's what a lathe is for!

And as far as buying a kit... where's the challenge there? Might as well just buy a car already built. Then it's really easy.

Nice.

Do you think that full sized distributor will have an interference issue with the firewall?

That looks sinister! I am also concerned about the distributor. What did you have to do to use stock fuel rails?

Looks good! Is that a wooden airfoil? It kind of looks like in the pics.

if that dist works you may have a money maker there, contact msd or accell,

i have been thinking of doing this same type of dist and then ordering up a motown 427 or 454 small block for my next project someday, keep us informed if the dist set up works and how you went about setting it up to match the timing output of the pcm to the engine(sync)

I dunno... the idea is cool, but if I were to do one it'd be for at least a 420cid small block.

Can't remember exactly, but I thought I read somewhere people were having success using a HEI under the cowl.

the problem will probably come from using a normal sized dist with the cap and wires on it which is why they have to cut the cowl. He will probably be able to get away with it since he won't be using the cap and wires. Probably make a small low profile water proof cover. Great Idea Man

Its in right now, no firewall clearence issuses. Everythings looking great, just have to put in the tranny tomorrow, and a couple of other little things and she'll be ready to go... No the airfoil isn't wood, Its a plastic material.
